2011 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Refresh
Not content to simply keep up with the Joneses, Hyundai is readying an updated version of its Genesis sedan. The Genesis sedan was launched only about a year ago, but Hyundai is updating the big sedan in preparation for the U.S. launch of the larger Equus sedan.
Originally scheduled for the 2012 model year, Hyundai will likely bump the Genesis’ mid-cycle refresh to the 2011 model year to better coincide with the launch of the Equus sedan. Exterior updates will include new front and rear bumpers, updated headlamps and new signature styling on the grille which will give an immediate tie-in to the Equus flagship.
Inside sources have also indicated that the refreshed Genesis sedan will come equipped with a new eight-speed transmission. The Genesis’ current V6 and V8 offerings will remain in the lineup, but a supercharged version of Hyundai’s 4.6L Tau V8 will likely be added. Expect the supercharged model to produce in excess of 400 horsepower.

They also need to seriously consider AWD..........that is one of the few things that Hyundai/Kia has neglected, outside of their SUV lines. An AWD option is something that buyers are going to expect more and more on sedans, especially upmarket ones like the Genesis. With the Azera, its standard FWD does OK in slick conditions....the AWD option is not needed, but, with the RWD Genesis, that's not necesarily the case. AWD would also come in handy on the Genesis 3.8 Track Coupe, but for different reasons.......it would make the handling of an already superb, BMW-like coupe even better.

Pretty fast for a refresh isn't it? Still they are aggressive and that means something these days. But building a brand has different approaches, and a longer model cycle with fewer refreshes can keep up resale value IIRC, and produces a more consistent identity. Yet to keep the attention up, and tie-in...who knows that may work too.

haha
they took the LS exhaust tips. shameless flagrant copycat.
if you can't beat em, copy em.
exhaust looks cheesy now that hyundai is using it.
now it's up there with other cheesy stuff like LED light strips and side vents.
Lexus should've put that exhaust tip across the whole lexus line in 2007 to stop people from biting.

Hyundai is aggressive at capturing whatever target market they set out for. I am impressed. My mother has a 2003 Santa Fe with about 100k on it. Never one problem. I even changed tranny fluid, both diffs, brake fluid, coolant, shampoo and scotchguard once a year and it runs like it was brand new. I like the new Genesis sedan, they have a good thing going with this quality vehicle. I love the interior.

Great news for consumers. But as far as challenging the big three luxury brands, it takes more than one or two great cars to do so. As long as the Genesis and Equus stilling wearing the Hyundai badge, their future couldn't be too different from the Mazda 929 in the 90s imo.

I disagree. In this class, only the A8 has AWD available in the entire line (easy 'cause they've got only one model), and then Mercedes offers it as an option in only one of the 4 S-class models (the S550)--the S600, S63 and S65 are RWD only. All versions of the 7 series are RWD only, as are both the standard and extended length LS460.
