Two teens could face reckless endangerment charges for a car accident at New York City's first municipal airport that landed both young men in the hospital.
NYPD investigators say the two 18-year-old men were driving at "a high rate of speed" at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. But investigators stopped short of saying that the teens were drag racing.
Nevertheless, the two cars, both Infinitis, collided and one of the vehicles flipped, cops said.
One of the men is in critical condition and the other is in serious condition at two area hospitals.
Drugs and alcohol are not considered a factor.
The accident happened on a public road at Floyd Bennett Field, which is under control of the National Park Service.
Floyd Bennett Field holds a hallowed place in aviation history. It is the point of departure for various record breaking flights from Amelia Earhart to Howard Hughes.
Won't mention the "D" word

Wow, they must have been going stupidly fast, a bunch of local kids I see. Makes me think of my younger cousin who just got an Si and in less than a few months into ownership smacked into an Odyssey because he was pushing the VTEC in a high traffic zone, gotta be careful people.

I used to race there with my friends all the time, we once ran from the park police there. But before it used to be pretty much completely deserted, with empty runways and lots. Now they built a huge sports complex there, with ice skating rink and basketball court and soccer fields, so there are tons of people there, and its just stupid to race there.

It has all been said before, but recently I have been looking at G35's and the safety record is very good, the cars did their job to protect the lives of the dumb drivers, and hopefully the passanger can recover. So ironicly if the parents did not buy the G35's, and instead they were driving beat up civics or eclipses, I would bet they would be dead by now.

Like I say, the only cars "cool" kids should be driving are pre-2000s Honda products or the Fit/Insight, Prius or a deathtrap/hybrid. You can't go fast in a Prius or Insight and there's no pretenses for trouble - and you'll be scared to death, literally trying to be stupid in a Fit.
