1SICKLBLOG: Why the "F" lineup expansion is a no brainer & I want my balls back

You feel they are worth what they cost? Like BMW M cars, Mercedes AMG's, Cadillac V's, and Audi S/RS models, Lexus F models are not (and will not be) chump change.

BTW, Mercedes has done just that..........they market an AMG version of almost every series they sell in the American market, including the SUV's. The R-Class and GLK, I believe, are the only exceptions, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a GLK AMG soon, though by 2015-16, new CAFE laws are going to be affecting a lot of high-performance designs like this.

How about this F variant?
LF-Ch Yes! h

This is the LF-Ch experimental vehicle that will be the highlight of Lexus's booth at the Frankfurt motor show next week. It points to an all-new compact hatchback sitting below the IS mid-size saloon where established rivals like the Audi A3, BMW 1-series, Mercedes-Benz CLC and Volvo C30 slug it out.

From my perspective the average Lexus customer, for lack of a better word, is sensible. As 1SICLEX put it, they put reliability above prestige. The IS-F definitely breaks the mold of what a traditional Lexus is and I think Lexus needs to continue to build it and improve it with every revision.
As a company, public perception is so important and even more important in the luxury market. If MB and BMW are building crazy fast, crazy expensive cars people notice. Everyone knew Lexus didn't and had to finally answer with the IS-F.
Like you said Mike, Lexus needs to crash the party. The question is whether Lexus can build big, expensive fast cars and still try to appeal to the eviromentally conscious crowd with their hybrids. Can they work both ends of the market place?
How can Lexus on one hand sell a luxury hybrid and boast "eco friendly....XYZ" and then have a car boasting 400+ horses and committing all kinds of sins against mother earth?

A good point is brought up regarding the environmental efficiency aspect and high-performance lines. In their first attempt in the segment, Lexus did not completely forget their efficiency credo; like how the first LS 400 was among the first 250 hp+, V8s in the luxury market without the gas guzzler tax, the IS-F at 18 mpg combined also avoids the tax. However, the M3 at 16 mpg and the C63 AMG at 15 mpg are subject to the tax. The same goes for most of their lineups, with the M5, M6, E63, E65, S63, etc. all classified by the EPA as gas guzzlers. If Lexus is to continue building F-cars, and particularly going up the scale with GS-F, LF-A V10s, they will have to monitor the fuel efficiency closely.
