I can imagine a M5 will weigh 4600 lbs..but oh, it has a carbon fiber roof lol.

In a way this new M5 seems to be the M7 we always asked for.

That's a very good point actually. If we look at this as not an M5, but an M7 instead, suddenly it doesn't seem so bad .

4000+ lbs. is not out of the question when you look at this car's physical size, large engine, large, beefy drivetrain components, large wheels/tires, and the amount of equipment hung on it. The unibody frame, in the BMW tradition, also has a lit of stiffening in it.

^^^ agreed... the LFA with all its CF is nearly 3300lbs, so 4600lbs for a car MUCH bigger that is actually practical, can seat 5, loaded with creature comforts, etc., but is still rocket fast, it doesn't seem so bad.

4600lb is not out of question, but still that's pretty darn heavy considering it's supposed to be sport sedan. just take back out the e39 m5 at 4000lb. that's good 600lb increase

BMW has acknowledged that a four-wheel-drive version of its new M5 is being lined up.

BMW’s new rival to the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, revealed at the recent Shanghai show, uses a 552bhp twin-turbocharged V8 motor and features a typically conservative body kit with sinister-looking 20in wheels.

BMW is keen to hold back exact details about the car, but officials have confirmed that there are moves to eventually produce a four-wheel-drive version of the M5.

However, insiders have denied that the company is considering producing a long-wheelbase version of the car specifically for the Chinese market.

“The long-wheelbase platform is reserved for standard versions of the 5-series sold in the Chinese market,” said one source. “There are no existing plans for an M5 on this structure.”

Set for UK delivery in April 2012, following the unveiling of the definitive production version at the Frankfurt motor show later this year, the new M5 is said to possess greater straight-line performance than its predecessor while delivering an impressive 25 per cent reduction in fuel consumption.

These gains can be attributed, in part, to the adoption of a Getrag-engineered seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox and a range of other measures from BMW’s Efficient Dynamics portfolio, including automatic stop-start, brake energy recuperation and on-demand ancillary functions for the water pump.

4600 lbs!?!?!?!? you can put a cape on a pig and give it super powers but its still a big fat pig. I dont care what they do to the car it will never handle like the old M cars. It will feel more like a Bentley Continental AWD. BMW will work it magic but physics is physics. Corners dont like fat cars. My friend had an M6 covertible that he let me drive all of the time and it was fast but never felt 507 hp fast.

I can truly see the GSF being the top super saloon when it's released.

Quick round up (and please correct me if I'm wrong):
The M5: 4,600 lbs, 580 hp, 500 lb-ft torque
The E63: 4,084 lbs, 518 hp, 465 lb-ft torque
The GSF: 3,600 lbs?, 480 hp?, 400 lb-ft torque?

Let's just say the GSF gets the same power increases from the GS460, that the ISF got from the IS350 (36% increase in hp, and 34% increase in torque).

That means the GSF would hopefully get:
465 Hp and 454 lb-ft torque.

That much power and torque on a 3,600 lb car? yeah, the GSF is gonna rape.
