Thumbs up How the RX350 Is Made

I thought this was a very interesting video, so many quality checks and effort go into making just one RX350.

Trust me.....that video is not just a piece of propaganda, or a public-relations film. The RX is, in fact, one of the most carefully-built vehicles in the market. There are a few things I don't care about it, such as the computer-mouse console and the slightly stiffer ride this year with the new suspension, but, if I was spending 40K on a new vehicle, it would be way up there as one of my first potential choices.

All of the Lexus SUV are pretty well made, too bad I cannot say that about their sedans.

Excellent video. Somebody posted an IS factory video from Japan a few months ago too.

they wont show the LS/LX because nobody outside of lexus workers is allowed in there at risk for contamination. The cambridge plant is less strict about this.

as for the process, it is very cool how they do it, but im sure things were over emphasized. If you look in the RX forum, you will see a thread about a problem with the front bumper cover which after driving it, sticks out on the sides because of faulty clips connecting the bumper to car.

there is now a TSB for the problem (or lexus has acknowledged it). Surely they would have caught this during that road course that each car supposedly takes.

There were a few hot chicks on the assembly line.. wonder how they affected the kaizon?

As for faulty issues after driving... I'm sure the popping out of the bumpers does not occur within the five miles or whatever it is that the 5 per day go through as "extra" checking.

Watching the video, I actually had thought the whole process was more automated than this, but it looks like the human factor is still very much in play... which is good.

That's how I felt until I tried it. Up until then, I was a dyed-in-the-wool fan of the touch screen. I have to say my initial and uninformed negative impressions quickly faded when I test drove it in traffic. Much quicker, more natural, and probably safer, imho. I will be looking hard at the RX shortly, and that feature will certainly not be an impediment in my final decision.

Did they improve anything for the quality checks on the new gen RX350?

Because the old RX300 and RX330 never particularly impressed me in terms of quality... they often had well above average squeaks and rattles compared to other cars selling for half the price, for example.
