Retro is not cool, period. Retro is a business disaster in the auto industry. Retro happens when manufacturers run out of ideas, lack talent, and do not know how to progress FORWARD. So they run out of options and copy the past. This is not setting any new standard, not leading, and not standing out in front of the pack. It's a cheap way out and usually always fails. Retro cars appeal to a very small select group of people who buy the car when it debuts, but that's it. Usually heavy discounts follow soon after and the vehicle is discontined prematurely.
While I'm not so sure the new 4Runner is dripping with retro, it has definitely taken on a very truckish and old school persona. This again is appleaing to a small select portion of the market, which does not yield high volume. As mentioned before, I guess Toyota can afford to take this route, with so many other SUV's in the line-up picking up the slack.

The Ford mustang called, it wants to have a word with you.

Now that I've seen several videos of it, it looks better in motion than it does in pics. I'm sure in real life it will look better than pics as well.
Overall though, I like it. I think both the interior and exterior is a big step up from the previous generation IMHO.

i don't follow this. full size suvs are usually bought instead of minivans or to two large boats, and not go off road. the 4runner is focused on the owner who wants a rugged vehicle that can really go off road - it seems more targeted at jeep and to replace the fj which is done i think.

I was at a Toyota dealer last night with my daughter and son in law buying a Highlander Limited and saw the new 4Runner.I really, really like the silver 4Runner Limited they had as a demo. From the side it looks very Lexus truck-like.Not many available yet but IMO Toyota hit a home run with the new design and also keeping the cost at close or at the '09 level.
Did I mention I really,really like this truck.![Thumb Up](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
