I didn't say I thought they SHOULD come with RFTs, I just said I'm surprised they don't since they're standard on the 328i and 335i.
Again, any source for this statement? With my understanding of the design of a RFT, the notion that it would hurt handling vs a similarly designed non-RFT, is a bit silly sounding. I understand it hurts ride quality, but handling? How?
Most of the time I'm in on a road without cell coverage I'm also tens of miles away from the nearest known location of a land line. I do a lot of back country hiking and mountain climbing and often times have a solid 15 mile drive before I even get back to paved roads, much less to somebody's house or business. Not to mention what if the weather is bad and/or it's night time and places are closed and people are asleep? Fact is IMO ALL cars should have RFTs or have a spare tire. Having non RFTs with a can of fix a flat is just a slap in the face to new car buyers.
there's prob. a phone number you can call from a land line once you get to one.

One major advantage to RFTs that you guys seem to be overlooking is that they don't typically just rapidly decompress and explode while you're doing 80 down the freeway in the rain.
They are? Not that I am saying you're wrong but I've never heard somebody say that a non-RFT and RFT would have any difference in traction if they were otherwise identical. Where have you read that? Seems strange to me that they put RFTs on Corvettes, in that case.

put it this way, RF is always heavier than nonRF coz' of the way it's constructed, very thick sidewall to support the car, etc... that's sprung weight probably at the worst location of a wheel/suspension setup. given that, even if say the traction is as good as ps2, then i would assume ps2 nonRF is still better coz' of the weight reduction?
again, this is just my logical thinking, someone can correct me. the covette has RF and it's good performance, but my question is, if change out to nonRF of the same grade, would it perform even better?

I don't think run flats are really worth the price tag they come with.
I have only seen a handful of them last the way they are advertised.
Plus they are EXTREMELY hard to mount !!!
All in all, glad to hear BMW assist came through like that, great story!!

The 1st year Lexus GS350 with runflat started out with no spare, but they listen to their customers and made the donut spare standard afterward. BMW without runflats and not even a donut spare is irresponsible in my opinion. Weight saving is fine, but not at the cost of safety.
