How safe is it to be stranded in the middle of nowhere, what if there is no cell phone coverage?
The 1st year Lexus GS350 with runflat started out with no spare, but they listen to their customers and made the donut spare standard afterward. BMW without runflats and not even a donut spare is irresponsible in my opinion. Weight saving is fine, but not at the cost of safety.

But I agree, some form of spare is better than the kit.

Do you remember that family that was stranded in Washington state last year after their car die. No cell phone coverage, the dad went for help and froze to death.

Bummer. Yes, I do remember how poorly he handled the situation. I also know that more people were struck by lightening.

+1. Last time I got a flat was in an industrial sector where there was a lot of construction and thus lots of nails all over the road... the chances of you getting a flat while you're stranded in the middle of nowhere are about as slim as getting struck by lightning or even worse, winning the lottery.
