Toyota Begins Interim Notification to Owners Regarding Future Voluntary Safety Recall
I know this is semi-old news, but the AP issued a report today saying that Lexus will officially recall 3.8 million vehicles; The issue is the old (yet still an issue) floor mat getting suck over the accelerator issue.
Here's the report from today 9/29/09:
Toyota to recall 3.8 million vehicles in company's largest US recall.
The government is warning owners of Toyota and Lexus vehicles about safety problems tied to removable floor mats.
They say the mats could interfere with the vehicle's accelerator and cause a crash.
The Transportation Department says owners should take out the floor mats on the driver's side and not replace them. A large vehicle recall is expected later Tuesday.
The consumer alert affects 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.
----
Editorial: I'm aware of the recent tragedy with the floor mats in San Diego County, but I'm surprised that this issue is coming up again; I was also under the impression it was just floor mats that weren't securely fasted to the floor and/or floor mats put over the top of floor mats that were securely fasted to the floor. However, are there 3.8 million vehicles with these all weather floor mats?

this is retarded. It's in regards to that one wreck which might or might not have been caused because the floor mat that maybe was flipped up. I feel bad for that dude and his family, but a recall of this nature is just crazy. There was one other accelerator stuck issue that again the floor mat was blamed for it.
They should just recall the ignition key and steering wheel while they are at it. That should keep people safe. Lets just stop any human involvement from driving.

ouch, at $100 a throw to reimburse dealers plus parts, that's $380 million.
they must be very worried about the p.r. and potential class action suit damage to do this.
