Definitely sounds like a lemon... My wife has had her share of reliability issues w/ her SLK. That being said, we'll never set foot in another Mercedes ever again. Like others have said, Mercedes and reliability does not mix well together. Make sure you tell your buddy that.

i vote lemon.

But benzes usually have electrical problems.

best thing to do is to exploit the lemon law and send it back to the dealer 3x, hoping they won't be able to fix it, and just get rid of the car.

If the dude gets tired of cars so easily, why doesn't he just lease the damn things.....
as a lessor, you wouldn't care if the car is malfunctioning, and you can drive it like it's stolen.

Sometimes there is a type of person that bad things just always seem to happen to, and there is often a good reason... I am feeling it in this case... Who knows how he treats his car? Why does he not post here directly rather than through a third party?

It's all anecdotal... The picture painted is of someone who treats cars as a disposable item valued only for the "flash and sizzle..." perhaps he can afford to trash it every 6,000 miles.

I don't know that I would necessarily go that far. He treats his cars quite well from what I have seen...all are garaged, taken care of, maintained religiously, detailed on a monthly basis, etc. I have been with him in the car on several occasions and he drives like any normal person from what I have seen. His wife drives an LX 470 that has always been flawless and he has a Cayman S that has always been great, daughter drives an A4 convertible and his son has an ML 350 that have both always been decent. He just seems to have had a bad run of luck with the last two purchases.

He is in his late 40s and has plenty of money to burn, lives in a nice house, and both of his kids go to good colleges. I don't really see a reason for him to not spend money on cars if that is what he enjoys. Everyone lives/spends differently.

As far as not making the post directly...I highly doubt someone with a problematic Mercedes is going to join a Lexus forum for advice. I have mentioned CL to him a few times and said that it's a diverse group who own many different cars. He doesn't even know that I posted here and asked the question- I was just hoping to have some answers for the next time I see him (likely this weekend).

Possible lemon.

btw, if his primary concern was reliability and he had to have a Mercedes, the current generation C300/C350 would have been a much better choice.

A C is a much smaller car than a S, maybe a E or a CLS would be more appropriate

No kidding.

But as I mentioned if reliability was primary concern, then.............................................................

That being the case maybe the new E will be very reliable, certainly not the S or CLS.
