^^^ Which many like. For some reason a lot of people equate "wood" to luxury. The GX, GS and IS also don't boast tons of wood. The LS and LX do. The RX seems to again lead the way in interior design as there is nothing else like it and surely others will follow (I hate the Sienna tried to do it) like they followed the 1RX and 2RX interiors. The RX dash design looks like something in a museum!
The CT has a "bamboo" option and I wonder will that be used in the future on other models.
I also love the Piano Black that is offered by BMW.
Lexus still won't really let one pick and choose woods and leathers. While they have greatly expanded choices (it used to be one wood, 3 different color leather) we don't have the JDM customization option. That would be great!

A long-standing tradition, of course. Yet, wood has often been used in non-luxury vehicles as well. The 1970-74 Plymouth Barracuda/Dodge Challenger and the 50s-60s British 2-seat sports cars, for example...both of these examples had LOTS of wood. The Barracuda/Challenger had wood-tone plastic, and the British sports cars real wood.
This is a stock 'Cuda picture.....note the dash, wheel, console, and pistol-grip wood shifter.
Of course, wood or wood-tone is not the ONLY nice luxury-trim material. I, for one, think a GOOD carbon-fiber job is just as nice as any wood. One of the best carbon-fiber jobs, IMO, is the light-gray console of the Lexus IS-F. It is superbly-done.

The SC430 has what is (arguably) some of the best wood and leather-color choices in the Lexus line-up.

Bumping this thread, my mom is thinking of getting the 2011 SRX, fully loaded anytime soon. No she can't wait for the 2012 3.6L.
You drove the 2010 model, did they fix the issues for the 2011?
Does anyone knows the differences between the 2010 and 2011?
EDIT: Thanks 1SICKLEX for this review.

Glad this got bumped. I didn't see the E70 X5 review the first time around. Wish you'd have gotten the V8 model. So much fun. The E70's went the way of the Lexus IS...... A little spongy, a little refined over the previous model that was more for "drivers who love cars". In purchasing my X5 last month, I had the choice of a 6 banger E70 or the V8 E53 and after driving both it was hands down the E53 4.4i for me. I like to drive the hell out of my cars and I want them to respond.
Great review~

The 1st gen SRX had its issues, but generally got lauded by auto publications for its performance but didn't sell since it didn't do well in the area that its target buyers found impt.
The 2nd gen SRX generally got poor reviews by auto publications (more for its sluggish performance than anything) but is a sales success due to GM giving its buyers what they wanted. Go figure.
I'd take the CTS wagon (even if it isn't the CTS-V) over the SRX anyway (handles and looks better; who cares if it's a wagon and not an elevated wagon, er crossover?).

I rarely, if ever, see the new SRX in SoCal. I don't think it sells well at all. Bizarre and boxy styling I think puts most people off.

I really like the SRX actually... it's attractive in both styling and price. I've browsed some of the SRX forums and the trucks have some issues... but i don't think it would stop be from taking a good look at one if i needed a crossover type of vehicle.
