Lexus most reliable used car, Gesellschaft für Technische Überwachung (GTÜ) report finds
15 Oct 2009
Hamburg - Lexus cars are the most reliable vehicles on the used car market in all age categories, according to an independent report released by the German technical authority (Gesellschaft für Technische Überwachung, GTÜ).
In the category of four- to five-year-old vehicles where owners changed most frequently the Lexus IS was found to have only 12.1 technical faults per 100 vehicles. This reliability advantage increased even more in the age group six to seven years with a figure of 9.6 per 100 vehicles while the second-placed vehicle had a technical fault quota of 33.1 per cent.
In the premium class, the Lexus LS topped the list in the eight- to nine-year-old and nine- to eleven-year-old vehicles by a huge margin, the GTU said.
The GTU compiled its reliability list on the basis of five million roadworthiness tests it conducted with special emphasis placed on safety-related parts such as brakes, steering and chassis. Other defects such as on electronics, engine parts and exhaust were also considered. (dpa)

Lexus has the most satisfied motorists in Germany
Hannover Zeitung/Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club
The most satisfied motorists in Germany are the Lexus owners. This is clear from the analysis of the ADAC "practice test" 2009. The large-scale study draws on the experiences of 42,700 readers of the German ADAC motorists and the motor world. In this most comprehensive industry survey on "customer satisfaction" gave the Lexus owners their vehicle on average, the best mark of 1.23 (grades principle; grade scale 1 to 5). According to ADAC some Lexus models have been assessed even with the perfect score of 1.0. When asked about the satisfaction of the owners with their workshop and its Lexus brand in general, achieved with a grade of 1.38 each for second place, just behind Subaru.
The results of the ADAC study confirm once more the outstanding quality of Lexus cars and Lexus service as a regular for years to be confirmed in independent studies and surveys. Last, the Lexus models in the cut at the October 2009 report faults the company for Technical Supervision (GTU) very well.

Lexus cars being most reliable, that does not surprise me.
However, Lexus having the highest customer satisfaction, stop the presses!
I thought that Audi, and BMW by far had the highest customer satisfaction, if you believe some of the German car fans here on CL and other forums .

They are taking about 4,5 9,10 year old cars, not brand new. Lexus are more reliable when they get that old.
Lexus have been trying very hard to break into the European market, it looks like their investment in customer service have finally paid off in the form of customer satifaction. Mke no mistake about it, the German live and breath their cars. Some towns in Germany are nothing more than a car town, the Germans will not be running out to buy brand new Lexus in any great numbers anytime soon.

If Lexus is first in customer satisfaction, word of mouth will spread, and yes, sales of new Lexus models should benefit.

Huh ? The article states Lexus was rated 1st in *overall* customer satisfaction, after more than 42,000 drivers in Germany were surveyed. That includes both new and old cars.

That word of mouth not going to nearly enough, the models/engines they offer there are not what the vast majority of people want in Europe, and how many Lexus dealers do they have there compared to the German brands LOL ?

I agree, the LS is not going to cut it in Germany, unless the Germans have a sudden chance of heart for soft riders. The GS is a failure in Europe and the IS have no chance going up against the 3 series, A4 and the C-class in Europe.

In Eastern Europe, Lexus is doing quite well.
Forget the hearsay, if Lexus is first in customer satisfaction, they must be doing something right, even with lack of engine choices.

The problem is the lack of a V6 and particularly a diesel option.
Most people there are buying the diesel & 6 cylinder S & 7 too, not the V8's and above they are selling here. The GS would need a diesel too. They should do much better if they start offering diesels for those cars, but I doubt they would.
They can never compete with the Gemans in fleet sales(which is huge) there too.

Looks like Lexus is trying to adjust to the European market by offering a LS V6 over there:
