Default Ford Taurus SHO vs EVO X..... Is the SHO an EVO for adults????

Just read this article in the new road and track and wanted to share. What do you guys think????? Is the SHO an EVO for adults????? I like them both and would probably still stick with the EVO, but then again the SHO is larger, more comfortable, and equally as fast....HHHMMMMM

I think I'll compare an SL65 and a Miata and write an article...

I thought the same thing when I first got the magazine and saw the article, but will blow you away is that the AWD SHO is equally fast. They have their own driving characteristics but it will blow you away at how fast and how well matched the acceleration of these two cars are ( at least to 120 mph).

I read the article but still came away thinking, "WTF?"

They must have been really desperate for a story this month.

I have to admit it is kind of a stretch until you consider they are both turbo, AWD, and 4 door. They are both also very quick. The SHO weighs in at like 700 lbs -800 lbs more than the Evo

Depends on what your definition of fast is. If its lap times, the Evo will definitely be faster than than the SHO that's for sure. As far as straigth line accelerations go, we haven't seen enough performance tests of the SHO yet to determine that... but as of right now the Evo is slightly faster in that regard, at least from a stop.

Ive read worse comparisons. THey are trying to find the car that the EVo owner would purchase once they leave the Fast and Furious crowd and start a family, get a job without many compromises. I dont think the SHO is it. Maybe a 335i or S4.

Whats insane is that both cars can be optioned to over 40K.

When I saw this a couple of weeks ago I just read it and didn't really worry much about the comparo (it is an awful mag).

What I did notice was two things. Once the EVO price is nuts, period. I cannot lie its a great performing car but THE 3000GT WAS THIS PRICE.

Onto the SHO. I call it the poor mans CTS-V. Both are large for their class, if they have a class. Both are American and big and brash. Both have great interiors. Both perform or outperform most anything else.

I've said many times once u get past the Ford badge, for the price of 38k base and 44k with options it really is a segment buster. Check out all the cars it directly or indirectly competes against...
G37x-smaller, no turbos, less tech. Sportier and likely more reliable
TL AWD-a little smaller, a lot slower, a lot uglier. Slightly better interior, likely more reliable
ES 350-no AWD option, hits 44k with options, slower. More reliable, plusher
EVO in test-less luxury, less features, much smaller. Faster, more nimble, more mods..
S4-smaller, more expensive with options, bland. Slightly faster, more nimble,
Buick Lacrosse-much slower, less performance. Just as big, will be cheaper
TSX V-6-less performance, less size, less luxury. More reliable, slightly cheaper
HS 250-smaller, odd styling, less performance. Much more MPG, quality, service
IS 350-smaller, no turbos, pricey with F-sport. More reliable, more nimble, quality
Avalon-blander, interior no better, less performance. Better quality maybe?
Genesis-slightly smaller, slower. V-8 option, leather dash

I mean the SHO really stands out for being well different here and SHO-ING out

One of the big surprises when I drove the SHO was that it rode very smoothly and was quieter than my ES350. I expected it to be fast and it was. I expected it to handle pretty well and it did. I expected it to ride stiffly and it didn't. I wasn't big on the aluminum trim on the dash, but the seats were among the best I ever tried in a car. The seating area is perforated suede-like material and feels very soft as well as holding you in place. This is the first cooled seat where I can actually feel the cool are blowing on my back. It is so effective that I had to turn the fan down. The seats also has a back massage feature that feels nice. The blind spot warning system worked very well and the side looking radar in the rear bumper makes it easy to back out from between 2 vans.

I really liked the car, but $45000 seems like a lot of money and they are not yet dealing on the SHO. If I can get a lease at a fair price I will probably trade. I worry about Ford resale, so lease is my only option.

First question is if anyone really would pay 40k for a Ford. I know I'd pay 40k for a Mitsubishi long before I paid 40k for a Ford, and the MR can be had well below invoice (much less MSRP).

No question on which car wins the driving and handling categories, either.

When I was younger, no doubt, the Mitsu would be my ride. As I've gotten older I can appreciate the quietness and luxury of the Taurus. I mean, the Mitsubishi is a real scream, but, I can't see driving it to work every day. The Taurus, definitely.

The Ford Torrance is a land boat. Doesn't drive like one, but looks like one. Those I've seen on the road are being driven by seniors. It's also rediculously overpriced.
The EVO is boy racer.
Two totally different demographics and IMHO, both lack grace, class, and prestige.
