Holiday season car commercials...
"It's that time of year again..." But will the same commercials fly in the face of a lingering recession and cutbacks in luxury consumer spending?
Mercedes-Benz has their annual Santa Claus/Sleigh ads:

BMW is out with an ad now, pre-emptively lampooning Lexus' longtime 'red bows' campaign:

Lexus has done their "December to Remember" red bows for years...

http://adland.tv/commercials/lexus-d...ng-2007-30-usa
TMC has pulled previous years' December Lexus ads from Youtube though...and a google search finds that these ads have provoked some discussion--the bows have been complained about as a sign of upper-class excess; used by comedians in their acts, etc.

lol @ the BMW ad. I saw it over the weekend. Basically they are conveying that one does not need any stankin red bows & roasted chestnuts as that is not what the car is all about... Just get behind the wheel & drive it.
I've been saying that for quite some time.
The Lexus ad is as old as the tree in my backyard & the Benz ad is getting up there too.

Are the Lexus holiday ads up yet? Just saw a Cadillac "family get together" holiday sales event ad. Here's a Cadillac December ad from last year:

I saw an Acura one tonight...it was lame of course and the message I got was buy an ugly Acura if you are scared to die...are they now the Japanese Jeep/Volvo? Its great they are safe but jeez, what luxury car isn't? At the end they show all the new beaks but they put the MDX in the middle without it. Yet the 2010 is here.
Driving BMW loaners as your car is in the shop Its lovely to see the Germans continue to harp and take jabs at Lexus... I guess they are on their mind......

I work for a talent agency in Los Angeles. There are very few new commercials being produced nowadays. Most advertisers prefer to re-use old commercials because it is much cheaper than producing new ones. For example, Duracell just started re-airing the same Christmas commercial they used in 2007 and 2008. The people who benefit from this are the actors who are in the old commercials because they continue to earn residuals. By the way, GM's advertising budget is so tight that they are now producing NON-UNION commercials. That way they don't have to use SAG actors and pay them residuals. It seems like the only car company that is aggressively creating new commercials is Hyundai.

Audi also has one.

Lexus red bow is played. Time to move to something else.
Mercedes just needs another spokesperson, the guy always sounds as if he is constipated.

i think the audi's commercial have been the best among the luxury car commercials, especially the "christmas lights", "progress is beautiful", "identity theft", "string" and did they have the old "break out of the mold college one?" i think they only failed one ad....

Though they probably haven't been aired yet, I would expect to see Buick do some Holiday-season commercials pitting the new LaCrosse against the Lexus ES350, as they have been doing so, in non-Holiday commercials, for the last couple of months.

I think its hilarious to see how desperate these car companies have gotten. BMW and even Lexus have resorted to the same deals as Infiniti. I remember when I first started on this forum and everyone kept implying that Lexus was to high end to blow their cars out. BS. Money is money and business is business. In the end BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus all have to play ball. I wish I was in the market for a car right now. I am also happy to see the Lexus sales people desperate as hell when I go in for service since they were the biggest liars and detractors of the joy while purchasing my GS350.
