here is my take away from this video
911 turbo (500hp, 650 Nm torque). lap time: 1.31.0 min
BMW760 (544 hp, 750 Nm torque). lap time : 1.31.2 min
Vauxhall VXR8 (600hp, 550Nm torque). lap time: 1.31.3 min
Merc S63 AMG (525 hp , 630 Nm torque) lap time :1.32.1 min
Merc SL 55 AMG (500 Hp, 742 Nm torque) lap time :1.32.2 min
Honda Civic R (237 HP, 219 Nm torque) lap time: 1.33.5 min
hello.. CIVIC???? with less than 50% of hp and 30% of torque, civic was able to place itself up there against 500+hp and 600+ Nm torque vehicles... there is no better testimony out there to say how fantastic Civic is.
don't know about you guys, but i am impressed with Civic's lap time much more than BMW 760 or S63AMG.
edit:
oh. civic is a FWD too.... so what does that say??

. civic-R weights at 2,790 lb (power to weight ratio is 0.082) . 911 turbo is at 3495 lb (p/w 0.143). so no. the power to weight ration is also lower in civic than in ANY OTHER CAR on the chart. BMW 760 has power to weight ratio of 0.12, Merc has about 0.106. which is still 30% higher than civic. the torque to weight ratio for civic is simply pathetic compare to ANY car in its performance range (at least on top gear), yet it was able to place itself nicely in the chart.
look, i am not a civic owner by any means, nor do i get endorsement from Honda. i am a engineer that recognizes good designs. from technique spec point of view, Honda civic should be blown to oblivion by those 500 hp/ 600 Mm torque RWD monster. yet that is not happening. so what does that tell you? Civic is simply a better designed product, it balances its power and handles very well even on a FWD platform that most people think it is a joke. it is EASY to boost another 100 hp or so, but it is DIFFICULT to use all your power efficiently. just imagine how much Honda can do with 500 hp and RWD? sadly that's not happening any time soon, but i am saying.
edit.
also per top gear chart
Lotus Elise (190 HP at 1975Lb, 0.096 p/w, MR), lap time 1.35.6.
the elise has everything a civic could dream off.. mid engine, rear wheel drive, 17% higher power to weight ratio, yet it is 2 second slower.

kinda getting offtopic with this Civic stuff.
i love seeing how the BMW & Benz were so luxurious yet they were speed demons.
The Benz liked burning its tires more than the BMW though!![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I love the 7-series!

Holy apples to oranges. The Civic has all the luxury of a grapefruit. These are MAN CHARIOTS here and the definition of excess. Twenty and ten years ago, they didn't have close to this performance.
The S63 and 760 should be celebrated for being made, for being overboard. They have suede headliners, crazy navigation, t.vs, 70 way power seats, every gimmick and do-dad known to man..
What the Civic accomplishes is cool for a Civic. However its as desirable as H1N1 compared to these other beasts.

The Civic is a neat car (esp. the FD version). However, we need to put things into perspective and not compare apples to oranges. Civic compared against W221 and F01/F02? These are different vehicles catering to different clients.
