I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla. I only go to the small family gas station/repair shop near my house. If I had a car that requires premium, I would go to big name station like Mobil only.

Not sure about MN, but here in MA, that sticker is put on by the dept of weights and measure which measure the pump's output rate, not octane.

Gas pumps, as noted in other posts here, are certified by the state Board of Weights and Measures. Honest mistakes, yes, sometimes happen with (maybe) new tanker-truck drivers who are inexperienced or don't know the tank-plumbing systems of the stations they are delivering to that well. But........to intentionally, and falsely, rig them, or put something in them that is not intended, is a serious crime (and a Federal crime, if it violates EPA rules). While there are, of course, crooks everywhere, the average tank-truck driver or gas-station manager/owner (meaning probably more than 99% of them) is surely going to think twice before trying to intentionally mix fuels just to make a quick profit.....the risks, which include loss of a buisness license and heavy fines, are simply too great.

I tend to only Mobil, chevron, etc. No econo gas, or ghetto gas stations. These *******s should be fined at a minimum. In their mind they are not hurting you and they will always just say that you pumped the wrong gas. Just make sure to check the reciept

In general, Chevron and Shell, today, are the two best brands....particularly with Chevron's Techroline additives. Years ago, Amoco and Mobil were the best, but, since they have both been bought out by other companies, you no longer know what you are getting with them

I'm not necessarily saying it's any worse now...........just that since it was bought out by BP (British Petroleum), you can't always be sure that you are getting the same superb detergent additive package that it used to have when it went by the Mobil name. Maybe, maybe not. But, today, we KNOW that Chevron still has a good detergent package.....Techroline is famous for that. Shell, with its V-Power, also has a good detergent additive.

Mobil was acquired by Exxon http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=xom. Brithish Petroleum (BP) acquired Amoco and ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Corporation). Shell and ExxonMobil are the biggest petroleum companies in the whole entire world...
