Reportedly, a liftgate would add excess weight to the top of the car, which in the Prado/GX design has historically been more top-heavy than other SUVs. Additionally, apparently many markets use the side-opening design (I dunno why that is preferred though). They have though added a flip-open rear glass to allow reach-in cargo loading (new Toyota Prado pic):

not really... pics dont do car any justice... we have it in the showroom, propelly prepped for sales, not dirty-from-the-boat-in-the-port version...
European ones get nicer interior, more equipment too... if you look at LC90 and LC150 side by side, you would think LC90 was done in 90's ;-).

KDSS and CRAWL and semi-active air suspension in top of the line version, as well as 4 parking cameras that double as terrain monitors when going gets rough, including under the water ;-).
As well as newest NAV w/ HDD, multi-terrain ABS, multi-terraint VSC w/ selection, electric 3rd row seats, bi-xenons w/ afs, JBL Synthesis DVD 5.1 sorround sound system with 15 speakers, etc, etc, etc.

I really don't like the bulbous headlights and taillights with the plastic extending way outwards from the sheet metal. Did the current gen Honda Accord inspire this type of design?

Toyota has been doing that for awhile now and it has spilled over to Lexus. Only vehicle I think makes it unique is the FJ Cruiser. Everything else to me, just looks a bit cheap.
