That seems perfectly reasonable. The R8 in it's overall form is undeniably gorgeous inside and out and w/ all-wheel drive and a V-10. Very few cars cut the mustard:

The R8 is an awesome car but Jeremy Clarkson tends to be incapable of talking outside of extremes. It's part of what makes him so entertaining to watch, but it also means you have to take his statements with a grain of salt. If he says something is the best or worst ever, it may really be, or it might just be 'pretty good' or 'not so great'... that's the downside to his over the top reviews is you really don't know how bad something is. He'll complain about something just to have something to complain about, or rave about something just to have something to rave about.
I remember once hearing him go on for a solid minute or two in the most dramatic fashion about how many chimes and 'bongs' I think it was the Cadillac CTS. I looked at all the ones he complained about in the CTS and went and looked at my 06 Audi A4. It had a bong and chime for every single thing he complained of in the CTS, plus one or two more, plus more persistant than the CTS, too. Funny he never mentioned that in the A4. He just clings on to one aspect of a car and goes nuts about it for the entertainment factor. End result is not so accurate reviewing, but fun to watch, at least.

I remember when he said tat the motor in the Audi S4 was the greatest motor ever created. Half of his appeal is just how worked up he gets when he likes something or hates it.
