People bought the Aztek despite it being ugly. You pointed out that they bought it because it was cheap... but there many cars in the price-range that are much better looking (even SUVs).

The MSRP for the $24k. There were big incentive 10-13K off Sticker. Keep in mind that dealer had the azteks on lots 2 years after they discontinued the aztek. There are many suvs out there for 10-12K

The aztek and the Zdx target to different buyers. One is a economy mainstream car while the other is a Luxury Car. People want class and image with a luxury car which the whole ACURA line does not offer. People who bought the Aztek wanted a cheap "new" SUV. 45-55K is too expensive for acura. They cannot even sell 40k acura RL
Pontiac stopped production in 2005. It took them 2 YEARS to sell off 500 units. How is that selling Well?

How do you know the Zdx will sell fantastically? It's not even available to the public yet
