Pricing is as-expected, not surprised.

As a current 5 series owner, I like the new design and sure it will look even better in person. It will soon make my vehicle look like old news, just like the latest 7 series is doing now.
I look forward to seeing the new Sport Package option with the upgraded rims, possible M-Sport Body kit (now offerred on the current 5 series below) and other cool options.
I also like the current MB E Class. Nice redesign.
As a former GS owner with a special place im my heart for my 01 GS430, it's long overdue for Lexus to step up & focus to make the GS even more desireable then the 5 series & E class.

BMW officials told us today that the EPA numbers are in for the 2011 5 Series — and they’re not too shabby. The 535i will get an EPA-certified 20/29 mpg city/highway with an automatic transmission. That’s a full 3 mpg better than the outgoing 535i, and it vaults the car to the front of its class for fuel efficiency. Not bad for a car that’s slightly larger and weighs some 100 pounds more than its predecessor.
Credit the new eight-speed automatic as well as the single-turbo Valvetronic six-cylinder, which replaces the twin-turbo six-cylinder on the last 535i yet makes the same 300 horsepower and 300 pounds-feet torque. Spokesman Matt Russell said the new 535i hits 60 mph in less than 6 seconds, which is “almost identical” with the outgoing 535i.
The 550i uses the 400-hp, twin-turbo V-8 of X6 and 750i vintage; Russell said it will reach 60 mph in about 5 seconds flat, with EPA gas mileage pegged at 17/25 mpg. That puts it 2 mpg ahead of today’s normally aspirated 550i.

Wow, that is VERY good fuel economy
.
More impressive IMO than the 2011 V6 Mustang's fuel economy.

With so much increased competition, Toyota NEEDS to implement Dual VVT-iE and Valvematic in their engines yesterday!

if bmw prices the 535 and 550 similarly, that would mean the 535i could be had starting at 49000.
not much more expensive than a base model infiniti m37.
pretty much a no brainer. I'd get a 535i over the m37.
frankly, I can live with leatherette seats. they're all covered with some kind of coating anyway.
even alcantara i'm ok with. all synthetic stuff
