Without thinking, my husband sat down in the car with no fob on him and was able to pull the car from
park to neutral. This should not have happened. As the car went into neutral, the car actually tried to
start by itself with the engine turning over several times. This shocked my husband and he immediately
exited the vehicle. At that time the wrecker driver walked back and they were dumbfounded as to how
the vehicle could try to start with no key fob inside the vehicle. We have a notarized statement from
Tommy Clayton, the driver with Baker’s Wrecker Service, stating this fact to be true.

these people testistfy thinking that car should not turn into N when it is off or key is not in the car? Of course you can change transmission into neutral regardless of car key. WTF?
Car has tried to turn itself on without key in the car, by itself?

If the ES350 is not running and in park, the key is needed to move into neutral.

then one of them probably had 2nd key in the purse or pocket.... and key electronics has apsolutly nothing to do with throttle... it has its own ecu, so any failure in key ecu would be limited to key ecu...
there is a lot of confusion there, and you know, poor woman dealing with all of that, but there is also lot of crap assumptions as well (from car turning on itself, to foot brake not working err not stopping completly err being spent completly, to car not shifting into neutral during drive to err car ****ing into neutral during drive, etc).

WTF...... king of question is it to ask in a freaking congressional testimoney if they are going to pay for medical and funeral costs..... gotta be kidding me.

The fact that the congressmen/women are all basically asking the same question/statements is proof that these people are just trying to get Toyota.

Do you guys think japanese people in Japan are still going to buy american automobiles after these hearings?

unintended acceleration equals unwarranted jail time. Interesting story
I am posting this separate from the recall stuff because this is a human story not direct recall. I know you guys will move it anyway but I wanted this story to get a little attention and not to be buried in an ancient thread
In June 2006, Koua Fong Lee was driving his pregnant wife and other family members home from church when he says his 1996 Toyota Camry accelerated on its own and the brakes stopped working. Lee struck another vehicle, killing three people in that car. A Minnesota jury convicted Lee of vehicular homicide and the native of Laos was sentenced to an eight-year prison sentence even though there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs involved in the incident.
Fast-forward to over three years later, and Toyota's recall woes for unintended acceleration are casting doubt on the jury's decision to convict Lee. But while the 1996 Camry isn't involved in the current recall, some 1996 models were recalled for unintended acceleration. Further, ABC News says that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received at least 17 other complaints of unintended acceleration in 1996 Camrys with comments like "couldn't stop" and "had to crash into a tree and another car to stop."
Brent Schafer, the lawyer for Lee, has asked for a new trial, and for his client to be set free until the time of a new hearing. The prosecution in the case told ABC News that it supports examining the 1996 Camry involved in the crash to determine if the car is at fault instead of Lee. For its part, Toyota has chosen not to comment to ABC News due to the fact that there could be a future lawsuit brought against the company.
