Yes, lighter colors can shine, up to an extent, depending on the quality of the top-level clearcoat paint layer, but, in general, just don't have the gloss of darker colors.
Incedentially, one of the most beautiful colors, IMO, the Pearl Oyster White, has the LEAST shine. Its gloss level, because of the particles mixed in with the white pigment for the pearl effect, is very low, but the resulting texture is gorgeous. That's why it is popular on luxury cars.

Hey - I have to defend Silver. Depends on the model and make... A silver SUV looks weird... and it does not work for some marques. (I don't personally think silver is a natural Lexus color) ...but Silver (and close relatives) certainly works for an MB or BMW sedan or coupe on a warm sunny day... Silver does not show chips or dirt as easily either - so it's more practical. and it is more stealthy and not as in your face...

I agree on starfire pearl.My favorite color but no black interior available on an ES other than with the Ultra package.

When I bought the car,I negotiated the install of body side moldings that are in the pic but didn't like the look and just took them off.
