The Mercedes McLaren SLR is about to die. Sad news, we know. But happily, it does mean we can gratuitously raid the Mercedes picture archive and give you a gallery that chronicles the SLR’s life, including some lovely tech details and cutaway shots. Oh, and those doors…

The parting of Mercedes and McLaren’s road car efforts comes as they each unleash a new £150K, 200mph supercar. The Mercedes SLS AMG will take on the McLaren MP4-12C from 2010. Each will boast more performance than the SLR for less than half the price, which perhaps highlights the flaws of the outgoing supercar but also shows just how special and individual it was.

Saw the real thing, both coupe and convertible SLR a few times, never impressed by it's design at all ... I would rather have a SL65 Black series regardlesss of the price ...

Did they ever make white SLRs? I've seen a few in black and it doesn't quite strike me.
