To be completely honest, I'd rather have an LS 600hL or S65 AMG anyway. Maybach isn't my style and no matter how much money I had I don't think I could ever justify the price of such a car. The top level flagships from Merc and Lexus offer everything I would ever want and need.

what exactly is so special in a Maybach. The S class or LS is already extremely luxurious - not sure what else they put in there to make it worth 400k.

Until you sit in one and admire how beautiful the car is you will never know. I really don't see how people here say Maybach has failed. I see a few in the DC area monthly. The only reason you see Bentleys a little more is b/c they offer a coupe. Honestly a lot rapper/movie stars are started to talk about Maybach so the name is becoming popular.

Will I purchase one? Yes if I was rich but at the moment I only have S600 money.

Supposedly, its build quality is better than a Rolls or Bentley, but I'd take that with a grain of salt, considering that Maybach is a Mercedes product. Mercedes, overall, has shown some improvement in the reliability department in the last two years, but there isn't enough reliability data for Maybachs (due to low sales) to determine that.

Still, if I can have this for $90K then I see no real reason to spend quadrouple the amount of money on a car that does it maybe 10% better.

Exactly it's about ultimate luxury, not build quality. And there is a difference between the luxury of this class of car and the S, LS, 7. There is no sound economic reasoning for the price difference.

Rolls also offers a convertible, another body style that, to my knowledge, the Maybach lacks. I don't ever remember Maybach offering one.

I respect your opinion but stop for a minute and look at that interior in the 3rd pic 1SICKLEX post, that interior is simply gorgeous. 10% it's more like 40 to 50%. Can you imagine how that suede feels? That car is in another league.

Like rogers2, I also respect your opinion, but 90K won't buy you a brand-new, twin-turbo V12 and all the amenities a Maybach has. W12, non-turbo, VW Phaetons could be had for 90K a few years back, but they, of course, couldn't compare with a Maybach either.

So, in a nutshell, at least as I see it, there's more than a 10% diffrence between a Maybach and a 90K S-Class.

Luxury is in the little things at the margin; until you have experienced the car there's no way you could really know if you would want one or not.

I had a friend who worked the auto show circuit for Maybach for two years and with his connections I actually have been in a few of them- both 57 and 62 models. It's obviously an amazing car and the interior is incredible but it just doesn't do it for me, personally.

I can't justify the price for a car that looks like an S class on steriods, and for what it's worth, I don't actually like the physical design of the interior. Yeah, the materials are out of this world but the car just doesn't do it for me...especially not for the price tag. Part of that is probably because the entire Maybach range is ANCIENT at this point.

I'd rather have a Flying Spur, Phantom, Ghost, or any of the top-line flagships from Lexus or Mercedes.

Not sure how much I care about engine size in any of Maybach's models because even the top end variants cant do a 0-60 in less than 5 seconds like an S65 or 760Li can. LS600hL isn't far behind, nor is the 750i.

Also,

They do have a convertible

Yes, I'm aware of that option.....I didn't consider that a convertible, though...more of a roll-back top, leaving the sides up. But you have a point.
