Remember ford has a history of doing that. Remember back in 1996 the 4.6 debute rated it at a whopping 215hp, and is now bowing out at 315hp. There will be more to come from this new motor codenamed "coyote".
I agree. That's exactly my point. This is a completely different engine. Ford is not about to bring back the original, 2 valve per cylinder, OHV, push rod 5.0 from 14 years ago. It appeared that some people here were getting excited about that.

I remember driving a convertible in high school and I was blown away by the power and the torque. They give the horses away at Ford. No wonder they have been selling them so well for so long

No one expected the old 302 to come back, it is past its prime. However the return of the 5.0 moniker brought back great memories.

Hey... it was going to come up eventually...

Well i'm hoping its a whole new redesign engine just like Ford did with the new SHO engine and Eco-Boost.. Ford designed this from the ground up right.. Looking forward to more leaked news in the next few months if not sooner.

I have to say Ford had really impressed me over the last 3 years. Not enough to purchase a car but the growth and direction are duly noted

I have to agree Ford has been doing something right lately.. For example there stock has risen over a 1.50 in the last month. Between there stock and up coming car models i don't see them going anywhere or getting a bail out..

Russ (rdgdawg).......since you cancelled out on the previous Shelby order, are you going to take a look at this new regular Mustang GT? Seems to be almost as much power for (presumably) a lot less money. For the most part, the only things you may lose out on are the racing stripes and the snake-logos.

I agree the old push-rod 5.0 was dated, but its torque curve, at low RPMs, was actually better than the early models of its 4.6 replacement, which tended more towards high-end HP. Later models of the 4.6, of course, clearly surpassed it.....as, of course, we all expect the new 5.0 to do as well.

Agreed pushrod 5.0L was dated, fuel-inefficient and dirty from emissions standpoint.

Not true about 4.6L replacement in the Mustangs starting in 1996, they had very healthy low end torque delivery and numbers and actually were somewhat winded at high rpms (power flattened off). I've driven both extensively, but regardless the (factual) charts and stats support what I just noted.

I was talking more about the torque curves rather than the ultimate numbers.
Ford also got into (factual) trouble misrepresenting power figures on the early-model 4.6 Cobras. I test drove one myself, at the time, and was not impressed with its performance, even with a broken-in engine that I could wind out.

When were you in high school? During much of the 80s and 90s, Ford was embarassed by stock Mustangs that got dusted by the Camaro SS, Z28, and IROC, which often used detuned Corvette engines.
