I owned a 96 4.6L SOHC for 3 years w/215 hp and 285 foot pounds of torque, despite the torque curve looking different (agreed it was different) than the 5.0L, the amount of torque available at 2000 rpm was huge and effortless. Performance wise 0-60 time was 6.0 seconds per C&D, certainly plenty quick, smooth, refined, competitive, snarly back in those days, not super fast. I also had several Ford 5.0L company Mustangs at my disposal prior to that for comparison for thousands of miles of driving, cruder and slower.

Separately and later, Ford misrepresented the 4.6L Cobra engine output (factual) because of exhaust system changes not taken into account at time of publication, a mistake certainly noticed by the target audiance, ouch...

With the news of the return of the 5.0, the news about the new 3.7 got lost.

I'm glad they are finally increasing the horsepower of the base engine to competitive levels
