Too bad, they were too late. The new Saab 9-5 looked promising, as did the 9-4x.

I liked how Saab had it's own uniqueness to their cars but this result was obvious.

The title of the thread should be "Saab is down and out"

sad day indeed. I loved the 900 of the mid 90s and the 1999 revamp of the 9-5 (But none of the midlife updates).

So GM rather shut it down than sell it on the cheap?

I used to always tell people the reason Saab is such a crappy company is because they sell cars at European prices but give you American car reliability . They wont be missed.... kinda like Pontiac
Nor has it turned a profit in that time frame either. Who on earth would want it? They are ok cars, but that's it.

No one wants an unprofitable car company that doesn't even sell 100,000 cars per year.

Penske's initial interest in Saturn was merely for they more expansive dealer distribution network. Saab doesn't even have that.

We should be concerned with what Saab
should have made.... Clearly what Toyota makes works.

The writing has been on the wall for years. GM buying Saab was and is a complete disaster. GM floundered and with it so did Saab.

Altezzas big grills torque steer and okay everything else were cheap fixes to a much bigger issue. The entire company. Saabaru and 97x were jokes.

Saaaaaab story

The older, Swedish-designed Saabs also delayed too long in clinging to 4 cylinders and turbos. When you spend close to 40K for a car, as top-line Saabs cost (at the time), you expect at least an in-line or V6 as an option. GM did put larger engines in some of the newer Saabs (some, of course, of its own design), but it still did not rejuvinate the company.

I assume you're talking about the 9-3 SportCombi wagon. The only reason GM came out with that was as a sop to the Saab traditionalists for dropping all the hatchback models that the traditionalists liked. Even so, like other Saabs, it has not sold well.

Not necessarily. If the new Kizashi doesn't catch on, I don't think Suzuki will be in the automobile buisness here in America much longer......they may fold before Mitsubishi or Mercury does......Mercury is another doubtful company in the long run.
