This is sometimes the case with cars painted bright or unusual colors (though I myself happen to like cars painted that way).

Toyota dealers do not special order cars. They are allocated cars and based on previous sales, if they sell a special colour that they do not have, they have to trade with another dealer or region to get the colour that is wanted.

Page,my buddy Koz on the IS forum special ordered a fully loaded IS 350 from a Lexus dealer.
Took 3 months for delivery.

I would deal with some one else
Ira in Danvers broke a tire pressure monitor
and sent me on my way
I had another dealer fix it and had a good
laugh when the service manager called
Ira to rip them a new one
it would probably worth the time and a
couple of hundred piece of mind dollars
to go with high priced Herb A's I used to
call him when I lived in Boston
if you are more into adventure call Ray catena
in NJ
They are number three in the us, are
amazing to work with and will flat bed
deliver
Imagine getting up on the morning, having
your first cup of coffee and watching your
carefully handled Lexus being rolled
down the ramp, registered and ready
to go

Do you really think its going to be 2 or 3 weeks? I think thats the generic response they are giving you. Any vehicle that has not been title yet is techically a new car, it doesnt matter what the milage is. It sounds like your RX was used as a test drive car before they drove it to your dealer, I would pass on it if I were you.
At this point, I would do business somewhere else, they have already lost money doing business with you and you are not happy with their service, so going somewhere else will be a win win situation for both parties.

In general, that is the case with Toyotas from overseas plants, but special-orders can (sometimes) be placed if it is to be built at an American plant.

Mike, unless Toyota changed it's policy in the last 2-3 years, you can special order a vehicle.
Like I posted a friend did and I was going to also but changed my mind.
Dealers frown on it but it could be done.
Now you can't order say an IS without a sunroof but options aren't a problem.

There was not one on their lot so they had to find one elsewhere and we were told it should only be a week or two. Since then they have been *****footing around every time we call to inquire on it's location. Things such as "We need to locate one" and they even went so far as to say the weather was bad in the area of NYC where they found one. Well guess what, my father was in the city and there was no "bad weather". Something fishy is going on here.

I don't get it? Isn't it in their best interest to get us the car ASAP? It's not like we've paid in full for it and we have no choice but to wait. It's almost like they can't figure out how to find one. When we went to Infiniti and looked at the FX35 the salesman said they didn't have one on the lot, but came back 10 minutes later and said he could get one there in 3 days from another dealership. I understand it takes time to find, locate, exchange and ship vehicles from another dealership, I really do and the wait time isn't the issue. What concerns me is the fact they aren't, in my opinion, being straight forward and honest as to why it is taking more time than originally specified and that they are deliberately avoiding the issue and haven't called us once to update us on the status (we've called on every instance).

So it should be clear by now why I can't figure out why they would actively avoid giving us information on it's location unless there was some hidden reason, and all I can think of is Lexus is having some issue's going on with production that they don't want to mention and therefore they're stringing us along. So I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone is aware of a possible cause.
This is quite simple.
1. The RX is selling way past sales goals and Lexus ramped up production to meet demand. Its like there is no recession with this vehicle.
2. The FX is a complete sales failure and there is ample supply as they can't give them away. Infiniti is back in desperate times, sounds like the salesman is working a little harder so he can eat.

November sales, RX 7,923 and FX 776. Understandable that a dealer could find an FX pretty easy.

Our new Lexus should be in before the end of this week. We ended up sticking it out, so hopefully we'll have it this weekend, otherwise we will be going elsewhere.

I'll post some pics of our Lexus' lined up as soon as I can, should be pretty cool.

You can order a vehicle from Lexus, but most dealers do not want to because it ties up "that" car in their inventory until it arrives. Most people get tired of waiting and go somewhere else and the dealer is stuck until it arrives. I waited over 4 months for a special order GX once. Dealers usually preference one and that takes a few weeks.

The vehicle still wasn't here this week, and there was an additional serious issue we had with their service department, so we pulled out and will be going elsewhere. It has been one of the most despicable buying experiences we have ever experienced and has left a vile taste in our mouth. Basically, their sales and service department is garbage. However, their general manager was very apologetic and has been more than straightforward with us for which I do give him props.

We got back our trade-in which was a 93 Cadillac Seville which was damaged in several places while it was on their lot. They will be covering the cost of these repairs, as it was clearly 100% their fault. One of the damages was it being backed into a snow bank as they pulled it around front immediately after we pulled out of the deal, the dirt from the impact hadn't even had a chance to freeze and it was 10 degrees out. The bumper was disformed in several places with an inch gap in between the body and molding. Sheer stupidity and carelessness, I was pissed to say the least. I don't think we'll be trading it in when we eventually purchase the RX350 elsewhere, I think we'll hold onto it as I personally love the car and at the time didn't see it as practical to keep it, but I've since reconsidered.

We still are at a loss for words at how they could possibly observe such a low standard of care with our trade in vehicle when they knew for the last few weeks we were close to pulling out of the deal.

Sorry if that wasn't very coherant, I'm running on little sleep and wanted to give a basic overview of what happened and where we are at now.

You should never give them your trade in before you actually have the new vehicle in hand. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Which dealer did you used?

GoodRevs, my local Lexus dealer had about 15 or 20 RX on the lot.
