Dustin, for comparisons sake, do you think you could find sales stats for cars like GL450, S550 and 750i in Germany?

Kia Opirus - only 12 were sold. The ugliness might have played a role.
People in the Middle east love this car.. they sold way more over there than Germany.

It's quite difficult finding this specific information online. I usually rely on Auto Motor und Sport for the information - and only when they print it.

However, I found a very informative site detailing the sales numbers of a certain vehicle model in Germany in 2009. There is also information regarding the years 2008, 2007 and past those.

Quarter 1: http://www.kfz-auskunft.de/kfz/zulas...en_2009_1.html

Quarter 2: http://www.kfz-auskunft.de/kfz/zulas...en_2009_2.html

Quarter 3: http://www.kfz-auskunft.de/kfz/zulas...en_2009_3.html

Some useful translations:

Rang = position
Vorjahr = previous year
Hersteller / Model / Typ = manufacturer / model / type
Einheiten ___ Quartal 2009 = units (___st/nd/rd quarter 2009)
Einheiten ___ Quartal 2008 = units (___st/nd/rd quarter 2008)
Veränderung in % = change in %

Yes, understood. The Escalade's stereotypes are widely-discussed many places outside of CL. But it doesn't change the fact that the Escalade, at least in America, is becoming more and more of a high-end luxury SUV for regular suburban families as well as its traditional athlete/pimp/entertainer market.

Of course, we're taking about the German market here, not American, and, yes, the Germans seem to (mostly) believe the Hollywood image of the Escalade market.

The biggest losers on the German car market in 2009
The biggest losers on the German car market, as I see it, may not be automobiles but the German auto workers themselves. I'm not against anyone making enough to have a good living or retirement (I have a good Federal package myself), but their enormous wage/benefit packages (some of which exceed even the well-publicized ones in our own UAW), has already driven Audi TT production out of Germany to lower-priced Hungary, and more vehicles are sure to follow. VW, BMW, and Mercedes, of course, have had non-German plants for years.

Yes, but that is one of the reasons WHY it has become a world auto market....the extremely high wages/benefits of both German auto workers and the U.A.W. in America. The way I see it, the loss of auto production (and workers' jobs) in German plants ties in with the thread title.....the biggest losers in that market.

Agreed, although these UAW and German union auto workers jobs look enticing to the unskilled and uneducated, the long term reality for tens of thousands of these workers is very bleak.

Exactly, diesel engines with 6 cylinders represents a very large part of the european luxury market. Lexus will never be big in europe without atleast one 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engine in every model.

I can not speak for Germany, but here in Sweden we have like 6 Lexus dealers throughout the country ,but maybe 50 BMW and Mercedes. It is therefore difficult to even find a Lexus dealer. American sportcars/trucks are quite popular here, but I have never seen one in germany besides the Corvette. But we have approximately 70% gasoline cars here, while Europe has 70% diesels.

I agree the model lineup with no diesels is a mistake
