Go ahead Jaguar. The XF seems to be doing okay. Not lighting the charts on fire (Jaguar should never try to anyway. We all know what happened when they tried that), but they are making a slow yet steady turn around.
Outsold the GS for the year with a lineup of 4 powerful V8 engines. WOW.

Jaguar
For December, Jaguar's U.S. sales were up 24 percent, driven by XF and XK sales increases. Jaguar XF sales of 1,013 units were up 50 percent versus 675 sales in December 2008. The Jaguar XK reached 191 units this month, up 89 percent from 101 units in December 2008. Due to the runout of the Jaguar XJ, Jaguar sales were down in 2009 19% to 11,955 from 14,824 in 2008. Jaguar XF sales were down 1 percent for the year to 8,487 sales from 8,578 in 2008.
Jaguar's 2010 XF lineup includes four models: The XF Luxury powered by the 300-hp 4.2 liter V8; The XF Premium Luxury powered by 385-hp 5.0 liter V8; the XF Supercharged powered by a 470-hp version of the 5.0-liter V8; and the XFR powered by the 510-hp supercharged version of the 5.0 liter V8. In spring, Jaguar will launch one of the most anticipated new models in the industry, the all-new 2011 XJ luxury sedan, starting at $72,500 MSRP.

not surprised by Maxima. great car at the great price. family just bought a maxima. However, we are not sure whether it is gonna keep its value well. so far our 07 CR-V holds the best resale value (only lost 3k when the car was totaled few weeks ago, that's 1k per year)

BMW Group
BMWUSA sales up 9% in December 2009
5.01.2010
BMW brand sales up 11.5 percent; MINI sales decreased 2.2 percent; MINI achieved second best year ever since launch in the US in 2002
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – January 5, 2010… The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported December sales of 23,617 vehicles, an increase of 9.2 percent from the 21,626 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. For 2009, the BMW Group also reported a total sales volume of 241,727 vehicles, down 20.3 percent compared to 303,190 vehicles sold in 2008.
BMW Brand Sales
Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 11.5 percent in December for a total of 20,128 vehicles compared to 18,060 vehicles reported in the same month a year ago. For the year, BMW brand sales were down 21.1 percent to 196,502 vehicles compared to 249,113 vehicles sold in 2008.
Sales showed a good performance throughout the model line-up. Supported by strong X5 AdvancedDiesel sales – one out of three customers opted for a Diesel model – the X5 sold 3,513 vehicles, up 22.3 percent compared to December 2008. The BMW X6 was up 30.1 percent to 562 units. The 5 Series gained 5.8 percent vs. December 2008 just prior to the introduction of an all-new 5 Series in the second quarter of 2010. The all-new BMW 7 Series and Z4 Roadster also had significant increases compared to last December, partially due to model cycle updates and limited inventory a year ago.
“The numbers show a good month for us, but more importantly is the fact we saw traffic, shopping and sales evenly distributed throughout December,” said Jim O’Donnell, President of BMW of North America, LLC. “We take this as a hopeful sign that there’s a bit more rational demand building up in the premium market rather than just shopping for month-end deals.”
BMW Certified Pre-Owned (CPO)
In December, BMW’s Certified Pre-Owned program achieved its second best month ever with 11,134 vehicles sold, topped only by the 11,719 vehicles reported in the same month a year ago. For the year, CPO sales were up 9.5 percent to 114,423 over the 104,500 reported in 2008, making 2009 a new record year for the program.
MINI Brand Sales
MINI USA reported sales of 3,489 automobiles, a decrease of 2.2 percent compared to 3,566 cars reported in the same month a year ago. For the year, MINI USA also reported sales of 45,225 automobiles, a decrease of 16.4 percent compared to the 54,077 cars reported in 2008.
“In a 2009, where our segment was down over 40 percent, we’re quite happy with MINI’s performance as it was the second best year since the launch of the brand in 2002, and market share increased significantly,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President MINI USA. “For 2010, our growth story should continue driven by three factors: an improving economy, adding dealerships in key markets of opportunity across the US, and building momentum for doubling the number of vehicles in the MINI range.”

The all-new HS model helped by about 6k+ units, this is the first all-new model in almost a decade for Lexus, whereas Mercedes, BMW & Audi kept adding brand new car models in that period. If Lexus keep adding more new models to fill more niches, their sales should increase even more ...
Look at the LS's December surge too, it appeared the 2010 model's availability came very late, so for a while, I though they are toast ...

i guess going up against camaro/mustang is much more difficult than i originally thought. again, it's 3-4k too much.

A few random thoughts, as always:
In a year like 2009 it is remarkable that certain brands actually grew significantly. Hyundai, Kia, Subaru, and Audi all had a great year while everyone was struggling, so hats off to them.
4Runner sales finally picked up (wow it's ugly in person ), but the GX fell 66% despite there being a new model and Lexus having plenty of showroom traffic. I am not sure if this had anything to do with inventory, as my local dealer has sold all of their GX 460s in the same day that they receive them.
I am surprised to see the GLK continue to outsell the Q5. Is this an inventory issue? I know the Q5 has been hot for a long time but it should have cooled off by now, which makes me think people must just prefer the GLK (even though I have no idea how).
SRX picked up a significant chunk of sales last month.
Do the ML and X5 always outsell the MDX? I thought the Acura was near the top, and above the Germans. Acura did, however, move 79 ZDXs. LoL. How long were they on sale for the month of December?
HS sales inched up again last month. I spoke to my dealer recently and they mentioned that they have had a hard time selling the car. It will be interesting to see the sales performance of this car in 2010.
The GS managed a decent run last month, handily outselling the M and A6 by considerable margins. Nice to see that. The E class continues to dominate but I am ready for the new 5 LS surged nicely too.

My apologies for not contributing much here, been pretty sick.....
Lexus had by far the biggest bang to end the year in December, whooping everyone in sales. 28k is a ridiculous amount of luxury vehicles to sell in ANY month, even when the economy was rolling. Caddy with a huge jump and Lincoln's December was pretty big for them.
Dec 09
Lexus-28,565
BMW-20,128
Mercedes-20,025
Cadillac-14,745
Buick-12,237
RX- 11,815 (outsold ENTIRE luxury divisions)
Acura-10,575
Lincoln-10,467
Infiniti-9,108
Audi-9,030
Volvo-5,638
Well as I predicted months ago, Acura would no longer be in 4th place. Caddy passed them. Buick is right behind them and will pass them next year.
Lincoln's big December let them come from behind and pass Audi. Audi had passed Lincoln just recently. As I predicted at the beginning of the year, Infiniti wouldn't come close to selling 100k vehicles.
2009 Total
Lexus 215,975
BMW 196,502
Mercedes-190,604
Cadillac-109,092
Acura-105,723
Buick-102,306
Lincoln-82,847
Audi-82,716
Infiniti-81,089
Volvo-61,435
As you can see I added the RX b/c like most here, its utterly amazing they sold 11k last month. That is at normal economy levels for the last gen!! That one vehicle outsold 5 luxury brands!!!
What is an even stronger statement for Lexus is if you took away all RX sales last month, they still would have been 3rd in sales, showing their more diversified lineup is working.

Amazing to see Cadillac surpass Acura, and Audi surpass Infiniti. I'm not sure at this point where Acura is gonna be at next year, or if Honda will even keep the brand around.
As for Infiniti, their highest in class horsepower numbers don't seem to be helping them. The new M will probably shore up sales next year, but Audi will have a new A6 and A8 so Infiniti might not be able to surpass them next year. Audi will probably go on to surpass Lincoln next year also.
I agree on your assessment on Lexus's product diversification, and if the trend continues (as it should) Lexus will be well positioned to hold their number one position for quite some time. The next GS, ES, and IS are all on the horizon (as well as the upcoming LF-Ch and small CUV), and if Lexus is able to score homeruns with those models, steady growth should continue...

Genesis sales are horrid and I really wish they were not. It goes to the reality of badge power an ugly truth those of us geared in reality admit exists. They barely sold 1,000 sedans AND coupes.
The VW CC is on fire, selling over 3k last month.
The Maxima sedan continues to outsell the G37 sedan every month and they are the same price. Seems the public finds the Maxima much more desirable (I am one of them).
The HS outsold the Insight for the 2nd month in a row, this time by a pretty large margin.
The Panamera sold 521 vehicles, more than the RL and A8 combined with room to spare.
Mercury only outsold Lincoln by 10k units and its a much cheaper brand. Why do they exist still?
Every month Chrysler's PR comes with some pretty innovative "spin" techniques . They are the only group that deserves a raise there lol.
2079 Blind people bought the Crosstour and 79 blind people in need of a shrink bought the ZDX.

Umm, hate to call you out, but you completely missed Och and Joe80's post from above. You have an error in your Genesis numbers (which you lifted from another board).
See below... and above... I would completely disagree on your Genesis assessment, but since you're using December '08 sales number, I'll wait for you to re-comment on Genesis sales.

Agreed. Infiniti hasn't figured out that while many of their buyers seemingly have Mustang/Camaro HP syndrome, most luxury buyers care about more than just a "number". Its always been Nissan's main selling point though. The new QX is coming too but the brand is right back where it was in the late 1990s in regards to sales.

When it comes to the Genesis in particuliar, what's factual is the Genesis in all its forms sold 2,354 units in Dec '09 which is a 126% increase compared to Genesis sales in Dec '08. What's aslo factual is that the Genesis is nowhere near its sales target when Hyundai introduced the Coupe version.
In other words, the success or failure of the Genesis is open to debate and can be spun in any which way. Here's my own spin. Which manufacturer wouldn't want to see a 126% increase in the sales of their current flagship product? The Genesis is doing well but nowhere as well as Hyundai would like. Hyundai has a lot of work to do to become a player in the premium/luxury market.
