Consumer Reports 2010 Car Brand Perception Survey, (Toyota Tops)
#46
I'm suprised Mazda and Infiniti finished so low, also, I would think Hyundai would be on the worst list. IMO, they have great products now, but a lot of people still percieve them as a company that produces junk.

It is surprising. They are both quality brands.
Yup. But seriously, their products have been mostly junk, quality wise, at least until recently. There's a reason their US sales stink.

This is a totally worthless survey.
I might as well put out my own survey with my own skewed perception of which brand is better and get a more accurate result.
Fact : is they talked to 1,752 people on the PHONE who may or may not even have a car and asked them "hey which brand you like better?"
Let me guess...most of those 1,752 people owned a Toyota, Ford or GM which explains it's at the top of the list.
Wonder why the better brands are so far down the list? Read the article or just 3 second scan thru it like I did and you'll know why.

Really? How so? Even here on CL, if you read the car chat threads that relate to Hyundai products, I would say at least 30 to 40% of the posts are saying "it looks pretty good, but I still wouldn't rock it because it's a Hyundai" or something to that effect. If that isn't a bad perception of a product, I don't know what is. Heck a friend of mine drives a 10 year old, beat up Camry and she said she would rather keep driving that then any brand new Hyundai.

I'm not at all and the findings are something I can easily agree with. We talk all the time here how Mazda/Infiniti have solid lineups but no one really cares/knows.

to normal people, hyundai is a good reliable car. i remember reading a survey and more than half of americans don't even know hyundai is from Korea.
again it's 2010. times are changing. people watched enough hyundai commercials and enough elantra and sonata on the road. hyundai doesn't have bottom 5 reputation anymore.

So I kind of agree there's a problem with this survey. Take 500 people. 300 of them own a Ford, 200 a Chevy. Then ask the 500 people which brand they think has a better overall image. What do you think the results will be?
