Pennsylvania State Inspection
Can someone explain PENNSYLVANIA STATE INSPECTION to me? If my car has a "3" sticker and an "8-10" license plate sticker...what happens if I get the vehicle inspected NOW, in January? And what happens if I want until March or even until after it's expired in April or May?

I know THAT! Been owning cars in PA since 1976. The real question is what changed and when with regard to the inspection date agreeing with the license plate date. At one time they had to agree. And I heard but am not sure if I inspect NOW I'll get a 1 sticker...can't go more than 1 year if the plate is later. Whereas if the plate was a 1 also, I could inspect now and get a 3.
Anyway, it's complicated. That I know. What I am looking for is an explanation to the complication.

Pa inspection
I live in Pa for the last 21 years.
Before:
Inspections stickers (both emission and state inspection) had to match the expire month / year date found on the registration sticker on your plates.
Now:
They do not have to match.
Note:
The emission & state 3" stickers both expire on the same dates ALWAYS but the registration sticker can expire on a different date.
It is the best I can explain this.

The window stickers and the plate sticker don't need to match.
Somewhere along the line, they got out of sync. How? Not a clue.
Car still had 6 months on the inspection when you got the plate registered maybe?
For some odd reason, you got the car inspected well before you needed to?
Let the registration lapse because the car wasn't being used?
Could be any number of reasons. Have you had the car long? Or did you just recently purchase it?
