new Scions coming: tC and iQ

True but what does your base Yaris have? For us, we have a stripped version that starts at $14-15k (I apologise. I didn't realise it had a price hike.. Hatch starts at $13,905, sedan at $14,990). If you want A/C, power win/lock/mirrors & automatic, you're shelling out $18k (incls. side airbags though) on the hatchback $17-$18k on the sedan. If an iQ comes in at $15k with the standard Scion stuff, it's a pretty damn good deal. But yeah, it'll depend on how TCI prices Scion.
iQ is more expensive car than Yaris...

Yaris is cheap hatchback... iQ is premium small hatchback. Apperantly it is easy to understand than 1 series hatch is more expensive than Golf, so understand that iQ is more expensive than Yaris. Size does not equal price.

Will the xD be discontinued? It seems like the black sheep of the family: too conservative, too weak, and too bland. It's a Corolla that does not appeal to the masses.
The tC and xB has enough power and pizazz to keep the young'uns entertained. They also have vast modding capabilities.
The iQ has enough quirkiness and oddity to make a statement like the first-gen xB.
What should happen is that Scion should discontinue the xD and replace it with the iQ, and give it the xD pricing bracket of about $14k manual transmission, $15k automatic.

Fully agreed!

i'd like to see the next gen tC as well. i really hope they make it nicer than the one i have because they kind of flopped with the xB2.
i really like the iQ a lot. my wife and i are highly interested in buying one as a DD for her. the only downside, IMO, is that it's going to be branded as a Scion. at times, I'm embarrassed to own a Scion because of the immature Scion drivers. i wish they kept it as a Toyota.

My previous car was a tC. Bought back in July of 2004. I traded the car in for my current GS3. The only thing that broke after 120,000 miles were both sun visors, which I replaced with better ones (extenders from latter years) from the junkyard. It was really nice when the tC was rare, I got lots of compliments and moreso after they hear the price. Now, everyone and their pet goldfish has one. The no-haggle dealership was a pleasant experience. Everytime I visit their booth in the car show, I get hats, shirts, and keychains just by showing them my car key.
I drove pretty fast with the car too. While it didn't have alot of power, it had a responsive throttle and good handling. The chassis can become unsettled if you push it though and the limit is quite low.
Having driven them (Scions tC & xB) for the past 5 years, I do hope Scion's new offerings can differentiate themselves from other brands like they did before.

I really liked the tC when it first came out, and while it has proven to be a good car and is still somewhat competitive in its class, I'm really glad I didn't buy one.
I loathe the side profile of the tC now. Every time I see one I do thank my lucky stars I don't drive one, just because they look so ungainly and awkward to my eye. Oddly proportioned.
The next one needs to be significantly sleeker, but the only way that's going to happen is if it's not based on platform that was mostly intended to serve as a sedan (Avensis).

saw an iq pull in to a park near my house today. felt so excited and shocked that i didnt get to ask the right questions to the guys. it was accompanied by a camry. i only really got to ask if they were going to bring to the usa already and the guy just said they were still testing it. not sure what he meant by that. i snapped some pics and left since i had to be somewhere.

I don't know if you care about the tC much anymore but I have some custom (fairly simple DIY) mods up my sleeve. I'm fitting some projectors in the stock fog grille and adding heated mirrors (one of the annoyances of the stock car).

I love the offerings from Scion and think the iQ will continue to make it a distinct mfg. for Toyota. I think they still need to continue the "best bang for the buck" approach if they want to continue to lure customers to their showroom and for the pure pricing strategy to work.
When my GF and I went shopping for the xB, it truly was the best bang for the buck. The iQ needs to have this approach too because most Americans who would even consider an ultra compact car wouldn't pay $14K when they can get a compact for the same price. Price it at $12K and it will be interesting, but that might be a stretch.

Thanks for posting the iQ pictures. That appears to be the current European/Japan styling which is fine with me, I think the yellow concept was too extreme for standard production but maybe good after market kits. I noticed what looks like a normal U.S. license plate on the back and the spaces for the license plates were the wide european spaces so that would undoubtedly change.
