I was about to post the same thing. The 1st and 2nd eclipses aka DSM, is a sport compact tuning legend, with turbo and the option of awd and was loved for that. Then in the 3rd gen they got did of the turbo and ever since the car became a joke. Now everyone loves the Evo for what, turbo and awd and is loved for that. now Mitsubishi wants to do what??, If this happens it is total fail and will be the doom of Mitsubishi., Mitsubishi read the quote in my sig, it will happen.

Your most likely left with about 120hp towing around 200lbs worth of depleted hybrid batteries and motors until it can be recharged again. Not a good compromise in my opinion and it seems like a complete fail unless they are just shooting for a economical somewhat sporty hatch with no real EVO performance pretensions or they have come up with something different from the average hybrid. Turbo buyers are certainly not going to be interested in this as they know it will be heavier, slower, and most likely only good for short squirts of power before it is depleted and needs to be recharged.
Mitsu, see GS450h if you want to make a car faster with hybrid tech.

Mitsubishi should stop with the hybrid/electric nonsense and not jump on the bandwagon and just put the Eclipse on the EVO platform, make it lighter, with a tuned turbo AWD powerplant. A good looking light weight awd turbo Eclipse rocket with 260-315hp is what many want from Mitsubishi and would get people interested back into the brand. Nobody wanted the Eclipse to turn into a big overweight soft cruiser with no turbo or awd.

These rumors are 101% inaccurate!
There is no such thing as NA motor running rear wheels while electric one is doing the front ones. What they have is four electric motors running each wheel while NA ICE is recharging the battery pack. Alternative setup is two dedicated electric motors for front and rear.
But don't expect this in Evo just yet, next one is still 101% turbocharged!
