MR has always been I4 so I'm thinking this V6 powerplant will find it's way into the next Supra

If it's indeed the Volta's powertrain then this MR2 is a serial hybrid, where the engine acts only as a generator and the car is propelled purely by two electric motors, one per axle.

Would be nice if the Volta is the next MR2. Why waste such a good design?

Agreed. This is probably the mule for the engine. Still an interesting choice for a mule. IDK if a AWD Supra is good though.

MR_F1 means if it will be mid engine + rear wheel drive or FR (front engine rear wheel drive) like on the FT-HS

thats why my initial comment didnt say mule since it is strange to be testing in a platform that isnt even similar in nature to the product you want to produce

so maybe this is hinting that Toyoda is in full control of this project and wants to see Toyota make a real sports car and inject some youth into its brand

good news i say
i can see an uber fast Evora now

i think it is just concept - here we can develop something outrageous with lots of power... I doubt we will see either old MR2 platform or MZ series engine in that new sports project for 2011...

Remember these old threads? Dating back to 2004. They were spy shots of a widebody awd hybrid mrs. I guess this is what happened to that old concept.

manufacturers concept a lot of products that end up never being released to the public, this is just another proof of that.

I wonder if they did it to study viability of car such as this (rar engined, rear drive with front electric engines, in sport cabrio/coupe).... as this concept can be used to determine value of such future projects no matter what platform and engine they use.

No, no one is coming with a half *** ugly hybrid 2 seater 120hp, 2800lbs, 35 MPG competitor.

This is the mule for the next possible Supra, which will be a hybrid (or at least offer it)

I think that was sarcasm on his part, i.e. it's plenty of power for 2800 lbs.
