Yes, I know, Mike. Sorry if my last post took us too far-off, but I though that was an important point to be made.

Do you think it was a mistake for MB not to release an AMG version for the coupe bodystyle (as atm; only sedan and station wagon versions are available)

What do you guys think?

well, i take it that mb hasn't released it but eventually will. i have a feeling they don't want to release e sedan and coupe amg the same year.

E550 coupe pricing is in M3 territory. Given their similar size (if not class), I'd take the 3 series. I'd take the M3 over an S5 or 6 series also. IMO, the 6 series looks as dated as the SC430 (I guess that's more of a compliment to the SC given their relative ages).

Mike, great suggestion about the M3. Almost forgot it has a nice V-8 in it now!

although m3 suspension might not be as forgiving as the e-coupe or some other choices in this thread (even the s5 has a slightly softer suspension imho)

but hey, i am biased toward the m3

I think the E550 coupe looks great. The interior looks like they went a step back in design but it still looks pretty good. I've had a couple friends that decided not to go with the S5. They say it has lag in acceleration. They ended up getting an M3, IS-F or C63

I thought the S5 I drove wasn't very forgiving over broken pavement. How's the M3 with the 18" wheels instead of the more attractive 19s? Maybe that will help soften the ride.

I can understand if mom wants a car that's more befitting of her status, but the M3 is a better car than your stated alternatives, and I'm certain your mom will appreciate the nimble nature of the car as opposed to the land yacht CL550 she turned down. A test drive may win her over.

oh to me i of course love the ride of the m3, in fact it's quite a bit softer than isf imho. but still though, it's probably on the stiff side imho, especially when compared to say my gs (obviously) or the e class. it's always a trade off i guess

we all know CLK/E coupe is a woman's/chick's car... and M3 is a man's car. Again my vote goes to E550, great engine!
