Volkswagen will officially enter into the performance arena later this year with the brand’s first performance division. Dubbed R GmbH, Volkswagen will introduce its new performance division at March’s Geneva Motor Show.
“BMW has its M, Mercedes has AMG, and our sibling Audi has Quattro. This new R division will be our Quattro,” an inside source revealed to Edmunds.
R GmbH will build on the company’s VW Individual division, which already offers a number of sporty upgrades for VW models in the European market. Individual’s most recent work was seen at the Detroit show in the form of the CC R-Line.
U.S. buyers currently have access to some individual R-Line offerings, but it remains to be seen if the new R vehicles will be available in the United States market. Detroit’s CC R-Line was believed to be a tool used to gauge the public’s reaction.
Like Mercedes’ AMG division, VW’s R division will likely produce a performance version of virtually every vehicle in the automaker’s lineup.

I feel the same way. I love the fit and finish, interior design, and the driving feel. BUT as soon as you read the reliability ratings you get turned off quickly. I have had many friends who have purchased brand new VWs over the last 10 years and all of them have sworn off the brand. I know there are many people who love VWs , but for me I am sticking with the Japanese brands as a safer bet
