In the NYC metro area you really take a chance taking up two parking spots.I know of 3-4 incidents where someone has done that and had his vehicle keyed.
I just park far away from a store entrance and walk.

Yes, double-parking is not recommended, a bad practice asking for problems.

To OP: Glad nothing bad happened to your car.

In general: Whenever I see someone parked in a place their not supposed to (usually marked "FIRE LANE DO NOT PARK") I want to kick a huge dent in their door. Everyone wants to believe they're too important to be polite and act like the rest of us.

I try not to draw attention with possessions I care about, because there will always be someone out there with less self-control than I do, that will cause you grief. Now if I had a rusted out Geo Metro on the other hand...

Thanks for bumping this again.

For the people who didn't read, I parked at the very back of the furthest lot on campus, it was not like space was an issue. Some of y'all here have vengeance issue
