Maybe I'm missing something but the only one of those 4 who mentioned disappointment with the M56 was Car and Driver (And their impression was strictly subjective since no performance figures were not provided). The other reviewers did not comment at all and it appears that they didn't have much time, if any, with the V8 M.

And regarding the prototypes this is what Inside Line had to say:

"We were driving development mules, however, and Nissan's engineers were still in the process of fine-tuning the M's character at the time of our drive. We've since been told that the personality of production versions of the 2011 Infiniti M56 will be enhanced through revisions to the throttle and transmission calibrations, and that they're taking another pass at its aural signature."

Yeah they were all pre-production so the real reviews should hit next month since the car debuts soon. It debuted in Feb 5 years ago.

I think we can predict, faster, better or the same MPG, sporty ride, good acceleration.

My prediction for a 2 door M37/56 looks pretty dead, no test mules, spy shots or anything....

I am at a loss about it. The G37 coupe maybe more than anything ignited the brand and is the best selling luxury coupe with the 3 series. A M 37/56 coupe to me is a no brainer its not like it will need substantial investment, just a different body. I would think it would be very well received, b/c at 47k-60k only the E-class coupe plays? You have to jump to 80k or so for the XK, 6 series.....etc.

Maybe it will come in 2011 a year after the sedan like the G35 coupe did...just makes sense to me (instead of crap like the EX, wtf)

I'm still holding out for such a car. The hush-hush with the Essence was that it was allegedly a precursor/concept for what an M coupe would be like.

Pleeeeease Infiniti!

Lexus definitely has to "make it" with the next-gen GS, especially to really gain some ground overseas. Benz and BMW sells lots of E and 5 models worldwide, and they make tons of profit off of those models.

I agree with your observations on the GS. In summary, it needs to be much more differentiated from the ES, while not coming too close to the LS. It needs to have strong quality, good styling inside and out, and it needs a real sport package. A GS-F is an absolute must with at least 500HP. The regular GS V8 also very much needs to have over 400HP. The GS hybrid needs a big jump in fuel economy just like the RX450h (compared to the RX400h).

i don't get it.

does it only "feel slow"?

or is it REALLY slow?

there are no prelim numbers yet right?

a quiet car can feel slow. If you make it more noisy, it will feel fast

The 2011 M56's pricing is not really all that out of line compared to the 2010 M45's MSRP. Note that the $3,350 premium package is standard on the M56. This includes nav, upgraded stereo, etc.

The 2010 M45's base price is $53,015. Add in the 2 tech packages and you're at more than the M56's $57,550 base price.

So, the 2010 and 2011 prices are roughly the same when both cars are comparably equipped - except w/ the M56, you get a sh-tload more HP, better interior, better gas mileage, 7AT, etc.

A 2010 GS460 has a base price of 54,945. Add in the nav/levinson pkg and you're at $56,517. So the M56's price, comparably equipped, is not significantly more than the GS460.

Whether you think $57,550 is overpriced or not for an Infiniti, the reality is, it is pretty comparable to what they were charging for an M45.

Well I see some dealers have inventory up and lease and finance deals as the company said they would have. I was stunned to see right under 70 grand for what I assume is a loaded car.

http://www.infinitioflisle.com/2011-m.htm

Most are in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Unless they sweeten incentives, lease deals more I think they have completely destroyed any ground the last model made with this pricing.

Not to mention the 5 series begins being sold in June and the GS comes next year.

67 grand here and 50k for a base model

To make me scratch my head even more AGAIN they are not even showing the vehicle at many car shows. It was absent in LA, Dallas and I just found out Infiniti will not be at the Atlanta show.

Their management continues to take one step forward then 3 steps back.

Wow, prices are pretty high even considering the deals.

Next-gen GS is coming next year? Is this reliable info ?
