What does this stupid woman think happens when it rains, and the rain runs off all the streets into the sewer, washing all the debris, pesticides, etc, etc? You should have told her to go ahead an call the cops, and shut up.

Btw, the greatest influence on autism rates is the age of the child's parents. The increase in autism can be directly linked to the ever increasing age that couples have children. You'll have difficulty proving causation for other factors.

edit: I think this is the first time I've disagreed with you SLegacy99. I'm always +1 when you post, "wish it came with a manual tranny."
Rain washing particulates its certainly a problem as well and has been a topic of discussion for decades. Nevertheless, you know that the rain falling on your car does not wash off particles, dirt, metal flakes, etc. like hitting your car with a high pressure stream of water does. Otherwise I would never have to wash my car.

But autism isn't so much correlated with parental age. You're thinking of Down Syndrome, which is very much so a possibility for mothers (and fathers) over the age of 40. Naturally, the argument has been made for autism because it is logical, but etiology is more likely to be multifaceted. Parental age is far from achieving empirically significant results with autism in the peer reviewed studies that have been conducted up to this point. Studies examining parental age have yet to produce any results that differ from a control group. You're welcome to disagree with me, but I've been studying this for five years. It seems as if some kind of insult, such as the flu during pregnancy is likely to activate genes predisposed to autism. But, there appear to be multiple causes and to further clarify, nutrional intake is one of them. I've worked with multiple families and varying degrees of autism and my opinion is that diet coupled with genetic predisposition is one root of this disorder, which I am in the early stages of a study right now exploring this. I can't say that I have ever worked with a family where either parent was much older than 30 during time of conception. Frankly, if I were pregnant I would steer clear of fish entirely. However, cattle, chickens, etc. all consume water and I would hope that it is from a potable source. Organic meat and vegtables means nothing as so many organic farms are next door to farms that do not practice the same means of farming.

Nevertheless, being responsible in this case isn't that difficult. And it doesn't matter who you are or how much money you have, emissions exist and can affect anyone. Simple fact is that dirt is a natural filter. But then I think some people will never be happy until they've blown their own personal crater in this planet.

LOL I had someone tell me the exact same thing...I just replied with the most ridiculous answer ever. I told her that I had a dream that my car said it was feeling dirty and asked me if I can wash it, while at the same time smiling to her. She must think I'm nuts, but got her off my back.

Aren't there are car wash solutions that are environmentally friendly?

To be honest the dirt/grime on the car isn't that big of a deal. Most soaps are not too bad. The DO NOTs are pouring used oil into the drain and other car fluids. I always recycle my oil.

optimum no rinse a.k.a. ONR!!!!

in vancouver, the drains that feed to the ocean have a fish painted beside them. so just don't wash into those and you're fine.

about farmed fish: i'll stick to my wild salmon.

a. it taste better
b. the meat isn't dyed red through the feed(farmed salmon meat naturally is grey)
c. wild oily fish has way more omega 3's
d. it takes 5 pounds of feed for 1 pound of farmed salmon to grow(why not just eat the 5 pounds of herring, sardines, etc?)
e.a little bit of mercury might be better than the huge amounts of PCBs, pesticides found in farmed.(i'm not an organic buying hippie either)
f. farms are close to shore...so industrial run off.
g. farmed salmon basically live in long cylinder. they are stacked onto each other and swim in their own crap

if you're scared of mercury but want healthiness of fish...get fish oil pills. mercury is filtered out, way cheaper than actual salmon(nothing beats salmon sashimi or salmon steak)

still though, you would have low chance of getting cancer if you ate farmed salmon once a week than none at all.

my sources? just google farmed salmon.

That law needs to be updated. You can buy phosphate-free, environmentally sound detergents for car-wash use. In fact, unless my car is REALLY dirty (as after a run in snow), I find, most of the time, I don't need detergents at all.....plain water works fine.

I hate to hear what they would say after I wash my car. I always use a lot of water, soap, water spot removal chemicals that are safe for the paint but need gloves to apply or it will irritate the skin, I leave a trail of tire dressing all over the ground around each tire as I load it up real good, drive around, then wipe off all the excess. At least I don't leave the hose running like I used to when I'm not using it.

Yup, I only eat wild too (unless the farmed one is unavoidable, which in Vancouver is almost never)
