In a statement posted on its Web site late Tuesday, Honda said the driver's airbag inflators in these certain vehicles may expand with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to break and could result in injury or death.
The original recall involving this issue happened in July 2009, and it included 2001 and 2002 Accords and Civics as well as some 2002 model year Acura TL vehicles, a Honda spokesman told CNNMoney.com.
The recall expansion affects 2001 and 2002 Accord, Civic, Odyssey, CR-V, and selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles, the statement said. Honda said there have been 12 incidents related to the airbag inflator problem.
One Honda Pilot car and one Acura CL vehicle may also be affected, the spokesman said.
Although none of the reported problems occurred after July 2009, Honda said it was still expanding the recall because it could not be sure that the inflators in the aforementioned vehicles would work correctly.
Honda said it will notify affected customers by mail and phone with instructions on how to have their vehicles inspected and updated at an authorized dealer. The entire production of each of the models in question is not necessarily included in the recall.
Last month, Honda announced a separate recall of 646,000 2007 and 2008 Fit, City and Jazz models worldwide, after a fire hazard involving a power window switch resulted in a death in South Africa.

I bet this will be mostly ignored.
Seems as though all eyes are on Toyota only right now.
All automakers make recalls on a regular basis. Perfection is impossible. Even Lexus, the closest to perfection, only claims to pursue it.

Nissan cars have enough problems of their own. All vehicles from all automakers have issues, nothing is perfect.
I wonder though if Nissan will do any recalls now or wait until later timing-wise?
Honda it seems is using this to their advantage as most won't even notice.

Honda recalled 1 million cars in past 10 days... not an blip on media radar... that just shows what has become of this media frenzy.

One reason why the media isn't on Honda's nut as much is because this issue happened to vehicles that were produced almost 10 years ago. Toyota's news today is bigger because the 'issue' applies to new(er) cars. It's going to scare a lot more people who are looking to buy new cars because Toyotas are usually on most people's list.
But at least Honda is doing the right thing and recalling their vehicles without the goverment getting too much on their ***.

very true but the ones where 8.1 million cars are recalled are much much worse. The worst was back in the day when ford had to recall 16 million but I think this toyota recall is the 2nd largest in history. I will try to find stats
