The Sante Fe is only slightly larger than a Rav 4. There is no direct Toyota model that competes with the Santa Fe, but the closest competitor is the Rav 4.

Highlander dimensions:

Length: 188.4 in.
Width: 75.2 in.
Height: 68.1 in.

Veracruz dimensions:

Length: 190.6 in.
Width: 76.6 in.
Height: 68.9 in.

Santa Fe dimensions:

Length: 184.4 in.
Width: 74.4 in.
Height: 67.9 in.

As you can see, the Highlander is very close to the Veracruz in terms of length. The Santa Fe is quite a bit shorter.

both Santa fe and Veraruz launched well before the highlander. Tucson was gonig against Rav4, Santa fe was against highlander. but toyota got bigger.

and i know santa fe is closer to rav4. i cross shopped those two. and last gen highlander and santa fe was very close in dimension too.

and hyundai designed Veracruz to compete with RX350. but of course, they failed.

Amazingly I can't tell the difference between this and the latest Benz concept. That is good news for Hyundai and WTF Benz?

Does it come with a free iPad?

Someone had to do it.
The design language reminds me of the new Mazdas. Which I like in their own quirky way.

This doesn't make sense, what you say.

The 1st-gen Santa Fe, on the market from 2000 until 2006, was quite a bit smaller than the 1st-gen Highlander, which was sold on the market from 2000 until 2007.

When the 2nd-gen Santa Fe came out in 2006, it was similar in size to the Highlander, but the 1st-gen Highlander was due to be replaced by a redesigned model.

I don't see how the Santa Fe and Veracruz launched "well before" the Highlander. The 2nd-gen Santa Fe came out less than a year before the 2nd-gen Highlander. The Veracruz came out only a few months before the 2nd-gen Highlander. The 2nd-gen Highlander was also delayed by several months, while Toyota was working out some quality issues.

1st-gen Highlander dimensions:

Length: 184.4 in.
Width: 71.9 in.
Height: 66.5 in.

It's clear Hyundai tried to imitate Toyota, as they made the 2nd-gen Sante Fe the exact same length as the 1st-gen Highlander.

For comparison's sake, here are the dimensions of the 1st-gen Santa Fe:

Length: 177.2 in.
Width: 72.6 in.
Height: 65.9

The problem is, the Santa Fe was redesigned while the Highlander was an old model at the time.

Fact is, the Santa Fe was never a direct Highlander competitor, regardless of what Hyundai was "going for". The Santa Fe never offered a third row, while the Highlander has always offered a third row.

Yet you still continue to miss my point. It doesn't matter that the 2nd-gen was intended to go against Highlander, because the 2nd-gen Highlander is almost a class size bigger than the 2nd-gen Santa Fe.

Also it doesn't matter what Hyundai intended for the Veracruz to go up against; fact is the Veracruz was cross-shopped with the Highlander, Edge, CX-9, and it failed miserably. Even if there was some slight cross-shopping with the RX, it still failed.

I agree - when the wife bought her 07 Santa Fe, she quickly deemed the RAV4 too small. If I were shopping today, I would put the SF in the same category as the current Highlander. Who cares about the 3rd row in a midsize CUV anyway, it's useless and just a marketing gimmick. Need a 3rd row? Buy a bigger CUV or a minivan....much better tools for the job anyway

and dude, highlander starts low at $25k because it's 2.7 4 banger. put v6 and highlander becomes 2 grand more than Veracruz. veracruz doesn't offer i4

http://www.insideline.com/hyundai/sa...e-limited.html

and you are right. santa fe basically was identical size as 1st gen highlander. so santa fe was intended to go against highlander. but of course toyota keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

The base MSRP for a V6 Highlander is STILL lower than base MSRP for Veracruz .

HERE ARE THE FACTS:

http://www.toyota.com/highlander/fea...html?trim=6946

http://www.hyundaiusa.com/veracruz/

Let me make this clear: 2nd generation Santa Fe is virtually identical to the 1st generation Highlander in size, and the two models were released 5 years apart from each other.

Apples-to-apples, the Santa Fe has ALWAYS been smaller than the Highlander.

1st-gen Santa Fe was SMALLER than 1st-gen Highlander, and both were released at the same time. 2nd-gen Santa Fe is SMALLER than 2nd-gen Highlander, and both were released months apart.

Yes, a loaded Highlander is more expensive than a loaded Veracruz because it has more features and options than a loaded Veracruz.

Why is this SO HARD to understand?

veracruz doens't have a barebone like that. COMPARABLY EQUIPPED HIGHLANDER base is at least $2000 more than Veracruz GLS. because most basic veracruz comes with much more features than a highlander.

hyundai's price>toyota's price. you should know that by now.
