Last Sunday's Trib had the usual ads from Toyota dealers in the area.

FWIW, I don't know who the author of the article is, but he's not the regular automotive writer for the Tribune.

Cheap shot or not, there has always been alternatives to Toyota products.

There will always be competitors. If the public decides to sway to other products, it's just how business works.

I was thinking the same thing but most people looking to purchase look at the newspaper ads to see what deals and incentives are out there.
No Toyota ads would be worse,IMO.

The problem is that it's not Toyota MoCo who puts ads in the local paper, it's Toyota's DEALERS who do and they need to sell cars.

Exactly. Once again, Phil, you hit the nail on the head.

Again, correct (buisness is buisness), but the public, as a whole, sometimes doesn't always face reality. We see that with the (many) people who still refuse to consider Hyundai or Kia products (some of them right here on CAR CHAT), despite the fact that, in some ways, they equal or better some of today's Toyotas.

I agree. The dealers (not Toyota) pay for the advertsing and need the business right now more than ever.

I dont think its a cheap shot to give people alternatives to toyota vehicles. Just try to get passed the bias and think if it was your mom who may have been killed secondary to a stuck pedal. Yes the recall thing is hyped but yes there is a problem with the pedals.

ok start attacking me

Exactly. Its not like Toyota controls what people buy and Toyota's RARELY win or get praise in all the magazine reviews.

They must do something right.

At this rate with people scaring me from Toyota and global warming, will trade in the cars for a blimp.

Disagree. Pre-2005....It was the norm for Toyota to get comments such as "excellent fit and finish", "reliability", "good-value" etc....now it is the norm to hear about Toyota's fit and finish issue (Venza, Sienna) and cheap materials (Tundra/Sequoia/Camry).....time have changed a bit.

In 1999, Car and Driver placed the #1 LX470, #1 GS300, #2 GS400, #3 Toyota Camry in comparo's that same year.

RAV4 did finish 1st recently in C and Driver if I remember correctly.
