In the summer of 2008, with $4-5 gas prices, yes, that spurred a mass trade-in for more economical vehicles, but so did the Cash-For-Clunkers program last year, which had nothing to do with gas prices. That was simply the Federal Government coughing up $3500-4500 for each qualified trade-in.

BMW had a Econo rebate of $4500 on the '09 335d last year.
That's a heck of a car that gets a very good 23/36 MPG with twin turbo 265 HP and 425 lbs of torque.
No fuel pump or fuel injector problems too.

a dealer offered me one for $299/mo....he didn't mention how much down...I'm sure it was crazy....I replied I'd take it if it was a zero down deal....no reply from him
