damn, I didnt even know A5 came in convert, but soft top is def thumbs down! I think the A5 is competitor for the E350 coupe convert another soft top, boooo!!! The G37 interior is massive FAIL and IS coupe is just un-interesting... The BMW is and always well be the most desired car in it's class...

compact-luxo: BMW 3 series
mid-luxo: Benz E-class
premium-luxo: Benz S550 (I know LS sells more, but only cause it's cheaper)
SUV: Lexus RX

S550 is tacky and only sells to limo companies, 3 series and E class only sell because the lease rates on them rival these of Honda Accords.

Now, I didn't really mean that, but one arrogant, biased post deserves another.

I don't think the article is biased at all. The compared entry level BMW and Audi to top line Lexus and Infiniti counterparts....so if anything, C&D biased the comparo towards Lexus by bringing in the top model against the lower level 3 series.

BMW's and Audi's have always been more money to get into than Lexus models, this goes for GS and LS as well. So you really can't argue pricing. Lexus lost the comparo based on overall design and chassis. Clearly the powertrain of the Lexus was ahead of the BMW/Audi but just imagine if C&D put the 335 in the test....the Lexus would of been even father back.

Or another way to look at it would be...What if C&D tested the IS250 against the others...it would of been GAME OVER even before the roof's were brought down.

The BMW 3 series is the benchmark in the segment...IMHO the IS places somewhere in between the 1 series and 3 series from Bimmer...Yes the IS350 0-60 times were good, but there is so much more to this segment than 0-60 times or how fast the roofs goes down.

I love the IS for what is worth but I still don't firmly believe that the IS is mature enough to beat the 3 series in a comparo.

Regarding the seat rails, even the new CT200h which is a class or two below these cars has a better seat rail setup then the BMW 3 series.

You bring in the 335i and BMW falls in the rankings because it priced itself out of the competition.

Slide the seat further back and it looks like the seat railings are going to be fully exposed - just like on the BMW 3er.

At the end of the day: WHO CARES?

This is such a trivial issue and arguing about it makes it more ridiculous. I can't remember the last time I entered my BMW 1 series and looked at the seat railings.

Its still not exposed anywhere as much as 3 series, and its capped off. And thats a manual seat too. Go check out the setup in IS.

It maybe be a trivial issue to you, but certainly not to me. These rails are filled with grease and that grease attracts all the dirt, and it looks terrible. And you really can't clean them out.

Once again, its little thing like these that show the workmanship quality. They may or may not bother you, but when you're spending over 50k on a car, its kind of disappointing that the workmanship isn't even on par with mainstream cars like Accord.

See, this is exactly what happens when people start to arrogantly present their opinions as facts, especially when their opinions don't even have anything to do with the topic on hand.
