This case however seems to be a fraud through and through...the question really left being that whether he was doing it A) he wants a new car, as said on tape; B) he was afraid of getting a ticket for being on the phone or speeding, or C) he wants to continue his 15 min of fame, having been on a lottery show, boasting of reality show ties on his site, etc., or D) wants some kind of $$$ out of the whole thing, or E) wants out of his $19,000 Prius debt, etc.
Toyota has said it is "mystified" but they haven't said much more...I'm guessing it would look heavy-handed for the manufacturer to go after the 'little guy" (actually quite corpulent). However, with the blogs and savvy local media, there is a drip-drip-drip on this...so far though, the CHP is saying they 'aren't aware' of any discrepancies. But already Forbes has the Balloon Boy Hoax comparison, and Edmunds has literally called BS on his story.
Maybe they could put him to a lie-detector test? BTW I wonder how he could afford a lawyer if he's $700K in debt? Pro bono, lol.

Hey everyone, just saw on channel 5 news that the gas pedal sticking Prius that called 911 could possibly be a hoax. They just said that the police following him told him to put it in neutral...he said he didn't because he was scared the car would "flip over" His car was never put into neutral.
First off, this guy should be slapped for even thinking that would happen to his car. Second, they say its possible that he faked it planning a law suit once this sticky pedal problem was released.
What ya'll think?

To sum it all up, when you look at what this guy got himself into with multiple-car ownership and bankrupy, it sounds to me like he was trying to be like Jay Leno, and have a car collection, without having Jay Leno's money to pay for them. Now he may be trying to GET Jay Leno's money by screwing Toyota for something that may not necessarily be their fault.
