Default Honda recalls 400,000 for brake problems

...and another to add to the heap of 2010 recalls:

Honda recalls 400,000 vehicles for brake problem

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Honda said Tuesday it is recalling more than 400,000 vehicles in the United States after consumers complained of brake pedals feeling "soft."

The Japanese automaker will recall 344,000 Odyssey minivans and 68,000 Element crossover vehicles in the 2007-2008 model years to fix the vehicle stability assist modulators. Some of those modulators were assembled in a way that could allow air to enter, Honda said in a release.

The trapped air could cause the brake pedal to fall closer to the floor before the car stops, and in affected vehicles the problem tends to increase over time.

Not all of the cars involved in the recall may have this issue, but Honda is including all units that could possibly be affected.

After April 19, owners will be able to go online or call to determine if their vehicle needs to be repaired. After that date Honda owners can visit www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4.

If I am not mistaken, this is Honda's 3rd or 4th recall in just the last month and a half.

Honda's defect was a clear one. SUA isnt, and is highly likely it is still and always have been driver error. There are no evidence of "computer glitches" as people claim.

Honda has found a solution & is voluntarily implementing it before the majority of people were aware a potential problem existed.

Old news in a way. The TSB was already released a year ago. I suspect many of the owners did not get their brakes replaced, but Honda is doing a recall for the sake of not tarnishing their reputation.

Honda is being "proactive", really? How about all the brake fade problems and weak brakes on older Honda models, as well as the on-going manual transmission problems on several Honda models?

Good to hear, you were more lucky than I was.

I have personally experienced weak brakes and severe brake fade on several Honda models.

There are tons with members here that have posted their problems. I still think they are more reliable than most but Honda means nothing compared to Toyota so the media doesn't care to blow this up.

Honda said it themselves that Toyota is the face of Japan.

They do a great job of sweeping things like the wrong odometers that were faster than they should have been and the horrendous transmissions they sell/sold.

The thing is every car brand has issues. Honda/Toyota IMO do the best job making reliable ones.

right... 2 years after it has fixed the problem on their production lines.

So they find issue in 2008... fix it.... then wait for 2 years and do an recall.

very proactive.
