2007 Toyota Yaris - 400,000 miles and like new.

I think the "death trap" mentality that Americans have for small vehicles is not entirely a misconception. I mean physics still rules over everything. A small vehicle is not going to do as well in an accident, especially with larger vehicles.
Yes, in Europe and Asia, there are safe small vehicles everywhere, but that's because all the other vehicles are also smaller vehicles. We went back to Taiwan last year and we saw perhaps two or three Toyota Land Cruisers. Here in U.S., about every third vehicle is a large Yukon sized vehicle. A Yaris in US is not comparable in accidents to a Yaris in Europe or Asia. Chances are in Asia, your Yaris will hit a Corolla, so it's a comparable vehicle hit. Here in U.S., chances are if you're in accident, you're either hitting a Expedition or a big tractor/trailer.
It's not a cultural mentality, it's a cultural buying habit thing that has translated into thinking that buying small cars means dangerous... because it is. Yaris hits Fiat 500, tie. Yaris hits Corolla, Yaris get damaged. Yaris hits Camry, Yaris hurt. Yaris hits Yukon XLT, Yaris destroyed !!!

Sure, odds go up in your favor a bit if you're driving a bigger vehicle, but there's always something bigger. Also remember that the bigger you are, the more likely you are to hit something in the first place (bigger target and less maneuverability).
The best safety feature is to be an excellent safe driver.

Well, it runs like new and even looks new as you can see from the recently posted pics. And with very few repairs. But sure, there's no doubt of some internal wear. Engine is probably only good for 4~ 500,000 miles more.

I could only imagine that it does drive like it has 40k on it, considering mow fast that mileage was put on what I really wanna know is if a car like a Camry, GS or LS could do that mileage with similar minor repairs

Mine is at 140,000 miles and no repairs. It's as reliable as the sunrise.

A big congratulations! I probably would be very close to the 500k miles mark if I still had my 1996 ES 300 as well but I'll never know...

Most repairs weren't needed until after 400,000 miles though. You won't find many cases capable ofsuch trouble free driving, including most other Toyota's and Lexus. Due mostly to the Yaris' simplicity, long proven engine, and it's still built in Japan. I'd say the only car as reliable/trouble free as a Yaris is a Prius.

my neighbor has 4 mercedes cars of probably 6-20 years old. you'd think he'd get killed by repairs, but not really. sure there's been a few things among all those cars, but really not bad.
