you thought toyota was fuel efficient?
new 3.7L stang 6 spd automatic puts out 31 mpg hwy.
must be some gear tricks huh?
of course, that's not the whole picture.
waiting to see acceleration numbers

The 19/31 Mustang is about 350 pounds lighter than the 19/26 GS350, so overall it sounds like Ford has finally caught up to where Lexus was 5 years ago (if only Lexus/Toyota did put the V6 in a ~3350-pound car).

Its with the auto only I think. Still I am glad this thread was started b/c I think it shows how silly some I-4s are in regards to economy and how many small cars just are not as efficient as they need to be.
Big Kudos to Ford here with this new engine. Yet it STILL has 300hp.
Now that is "Advance"

I'd bet so; otherwise its city mileage should've been better than the much heavier GS350. Also EPA mileage is obtained through running the car on a dyno, so aerodynamics play no part in those EPA numbers, which means the discrepancy between the Mustang's EPA highway mileage and its real-world highway mileage is likely gonna be quite a bit worse than that of the slicker GS.

The drive wheels are placed on a dynamometer that simulates the driving environment.
The energy required to move the rollers is adjusted to account for wind resistance and the vehicle's weight.

Nice. It seems as though everyone else will soon be playing catchup to Ford and GM. Ford's Fiesta and Focus will set new standards this coming year with highway ratings of 40 mpg with their high 6 speed transmissions (a class first).
We can no longer assume Toyota and Honda the efficiency benchmarks. Toyota and Honda needs to follow suit with 6 speeds to compete for highway numbers.
Of course, I wouldn't call this that amazing. After all, the 6.2L 430hp V8 Corvette gets 26mpg highway. That's what a high 6th gear and bullet-like aerodynamics will do.

Aerodynamics, combined with a tall 6th-gear in the auto is what allows it to get such a number, but a good achievement from Ford
.
The tall 6th-gear is pretty much confirmed.
If you notice, the manual Stang with the same engine gets quite a bit less in terms of fuel economy.

Chances are you will get better with the MT if you care to. Do some short shifts, which obviously isn't ideal for quick acceleration, but is more valuable to saving fuel than any automatic I've driven. No that's not fair. Any non hybrid auto that I have driven.
