Next-gen S-Class to go all-hybrid in U.S., save AMG variants

I would hope the next GS isn't designed to be a hybrid like the HS. The HS is frumpy and tall because Lexus tried to make up the difference taken by the batteries. Could you imagine if the GS had an ugly side profile like this?
those are 18inch wheels btw
Aside from that the HS is front drive so the GS would never be able to be as space efficient. Lithium batteries would help, but full hybrid drivetrains just aren't really made for slick sport RWD sedans, because then you end up with one thing or another compromised...

This is a bold move, but I think it's going to hurt them more than help them. It seems they are taking a page from Lexus Europe going all-hybrid here.
A lot of people are going to want a regular gas engine in non-AMG S Class models here in the US.
I predict this strategy will do poorly.

I read an article in the bathroom Motor Trend or Car & Driver about the new Mercedes mild-hybrid system. It's brilliant - a lithium ion battery replaces the standard battery, and a small electric motor is placed between the motor and the transmission instead of a torque converter. Adds very little weight but offers tangible benefits.
I'm sure one day all cars will be a form of mild hybrid because there are no drawbacks to them.

19/26 doesn't seem all that great for the S400, but it is good considering MB was designated the fleet with the lowest fuel economy. They need to improve upon their 3.5L engine. Make this vehicle more worthwhile.
