those are 18inch wheels btw

Aside from that the HS is front drive so the GS would never be able to be as space efficient. Lithium batteries would help, but full hybrid drivetrains just aren't really made for slick sport RWD sedans, because then you end up with one thing or another compromised...
Mediocre choice of rims there

I can't say that the GS isn't frumpy.

This is a bold move, but I think it's going to hurt them more than help them. It seems they are taking a page from Lexus Europe going all-hybrid here.

A lot of people are going to want a regular gas engine in non-AMG S Class models here in the US.

I predict this strategy will do poorly.

As I said in my previous posts, there's no problem with Mercedes going all hybrid because there's very little difference between their mild hybrids and standard vehicles as Thermactor notes:

Adds very little weight but offers tangible benefits.
Because of this people can have their cake and eat it too in a sense. They can get 20% more efficiency without sacrificing any interior space. This is where mild hybrids shine over full hybrids, especially in RWD applications.

I'm sure one day all cars will be a form of mild hybrid because there are no drawbacks to them.

19/26 doesn't seem all that great for the S400, but it is good considering MB was designated the fleet with the lowest fuel economy. They need to improve upon their 3.5L engine. Make this vehicle more worthwhile.
